EP 39: Lisa Roper Wicker of Widow Jane Distillery.
This week's guest on Spirits of Whisk(e)y is Lisa Roper Wicker, President, Head Distiller, and Blender at Widow Jane Distillery. Located in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, Widow Jane, in addition to making and laying down its own distillates, affectionately named "Baby Janes," sources and blends straight bourbon and rye whiskeys from Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee, and then proofs them with limestone mineral water from New York's Hudson River Valley, home of the historic Widow Jane Mine. Listen and learn how Lisa, a former ballet dancer and native of Bloomington, Indiana, went from winemaking in America's heartland to whiskey making in the center of the hipster universe. Then here Chef Louise Leonard, for whom Brooklyn figures bigly in her whiskey journey, mix Widow Jane's American Oak-aged Straight Rye Whiskey with Pickett's Ginger Syrup, another Brooklyn product, this one made by her good friends, the Pickett Brothers. The result? A Brooklyn Mule. And yes, it's got
videoRockburn Crimson Peak Pinot Noir 2024
This wine is a true evocation of Central Otago, shaped by the mountainsides and river valleys where the fruit is grown. It’s bright, fresh, and fruity, with a natural tension and minerality from our soils. The wine spends just enough time in oak to mature and develop those cosy, toasty flavours, and it has a long life ahead. A wonderful wine to enjoy with family and friends.

Karina’s Gin Of The Week – Gin Rouge Mosel Dry Gin
For this Gin of the week, I am drawn to the steep and sunny slopes of the terraced Moselle. This fruity aroma bomb meets a classic dry gin in Wajos’ Gin Rouge Mosel Dry Gin. The Red […]

podcast· 16:34184. Reaching the F* It Point
We’ve all had that moment where everything feels too hard, too disappointing, too far off track — and we hear ourselves say “F-it.” But that moment isn’t failure. It’s a sign. A signal that something needs attention, not abandonment. In this episode, I’m breaking down why the F-it point is almost never about the wine — and what it’s really telling you about pressure, perfectionism, and the stories we make up when things don’t go to plan. You’ll hear why it’s worth getting curious instead of giving up, how habits and self-trust can carry you through the wobble, and why you don’t need to reverse your whole journey just because one day felt hard. If your last F*-it moment left you wondering what went wrong — or how to move forward — book a free discovery call with me. Together, we’ll figure out what you really need and create a plan that supports the version of you you’re becoming. You don’t have to do this alone.
