videoWe Opened Four 30-Year-Old Australian Cabernets
What happens when four Australian Cabernet wines from the same vintage, stored in the same cellar for 30 years, are opened and tasted blind? In this episode of Got Somme, Angus O’Loughlin and Master Sommelier Carlos Santos taste a flight of 1996 Australian wines from four different states: New South Wales, Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia. The lineup includes two celebrated Australian producers and two lesser-known challengers. But when the bottles are revealed, reputation counts for nothing. Carlos explains how to store wine correctly, why old corks can disintegrate, how oxygen affects ageing and the signs that a mature wine may be approaching the end of its drinking window. The pair also explore the tobacco, cedar, leather, dried fruit and cigar-box characters that develop as Cabernet ages. Which Australian wine region produced the best-performing 1996 Cabernet? And should you open that old bottle sitting in your cellar before it is too late? Thank you to Mark Die

We opened a bottle from 1927. Yes, you read that correctly. Nearly 100 years old, still sealed, and carrying almost a century of history inside it. But what does something this old actually taste like? And more importantly, how much of what’s in the bottle is really from 1927? We put on our Sherlock Holmes hats, opened it and found out. 🍷 Comment “1927” and we’ll send you the full episode.
video100-Year-Old Wine: Poison or Perfect?
Angus thought he had spent $450 on a bottle of wine from 1927. Then Master Sommelier Carlos Santos revealed that the label did not tell the whole story. In this episode of Got Somme, Angus and Carlos open a rare Seppeltsfield 1927 Para Liqueur Tawny and investigate what the date on the bottle actually means. Is the wine genuinely almost 100 years old, or does it contain only a small portion of wine from 1927? Carlos explains how these historic Australian fortified wines were blended, why the year represented the oldest component in the bottle and how ageing in oak transforms a dark red wine into an intensely concentrated Tawny. They also explore the difference between Tawny and Ruby fortified wines, how long an opened bottle can last, the best temperature for serving fortified wine and what food you should pair with it. Was this historic bottle worth $450? Watch until the end for Angus and Carlos’ verdict. Shop the RIEDEL range here: https://www.riedel.com/en-au Australian liste

videoThe Ultimate French Wine Trip: Salon, Grand Cru Chablis & Unicorn Wines
We went to France for the wine trip of a lifetime. From stepping inside Champagne Salon, one of the world’s most exclusive Champagne houses, to drinking rare Grand Cru Chablis in the place it was actually made, this episode is about what happens when you experience some of the world’s greatest wines in their motherland. We travelled 25 hours by plane, two hours by train and another two and a half hours by car to get access to Salon, tasting Champagne in a place very few people will ever get to experience. It became one of the most emotional and memorable wine experiences we’ve ever had. Then it was on to Chablis, standing amongst the Grand Cru vineyards of Le Clos and meeting the people actually making these wines. We explore why vineyards only metres apart can produce dramatically different wines, the differences between Petit Chablis, Chablis, Premier Cru and Grand Cru, and what a changing climate could mean for one of the world’s most famous Chardonnay regions. And then there’s

Got Somme has gone global! After being nominated in two categories at the 2026 67 Pall Mall Wine Communicator Awards, Angus flies from Melbourne to London to find out whether Got Somme can take home an international award. Before the winners are announced, we explore London’s incredible wine culture, beginning at Ye Olde Wine Shades, one of the city’s oldest and most historic wine bars. Angus tastes grower Champagne from a traditional pewter tankard and pairs classic British dishes with wines from England, France, South Africa and Spain. From English sparkling wine with fish and chips to Chardonnay with a Scotch egg, Grenache with bangers and mash, and Port with Stilton, this is the most British wine tasting Got Somme has ever attempted. We also receive special access to 67 Pall Mall for a conversation with founder and CEO Grant Ashton. Grant shares his plans for 67 Pall Mall Melbourne, the challenges of importing international wine into Australia and why Australian wine deserves i
videoPeople aren’t only buying what’s inside the bottle anymore.
People aren’t only buying what’s inside the bottle anymore. They want to know where the fruit was grown, who made the wine and whether the people behind it genuinely care for the land. For Andrew at @yeah_wine, that means working closely with growers, making wine sustainably and welcoming people into the story at their cellar door. It’s a philosophy shared by many of the small, family-run producers across @blackwoodvalleywine, and it could be exactly what modern wine drinkers are searching for. #YeahWine #BlackwoodValley #SustainableWine #AustralianWine #WinePeople

videoI Bought 12 Bottles After One Sip of This $28 Wine
What if your new favourite Australian wine came from a region you have never heard of and cost less than $30? Angus O’Loughlin and Master Sommelier Carlos Santos are joined by winemaker Andrew Dawson from Yeah Wine to explore Blackwood Valley, one of Western Australia’s most exciting and overlooked wine regions. Nestled inland from Margaret River, Blackwood Valley is home to family-run vineyards, rolling hills and a distinctive continental climate that produces beautifully expressive Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, without the premium price tag. The conversation begins with a 2023 Whimwood Estate Chardonnay so good Angus ordered 12 bottles. Hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed and fermented in French oak, this impressive Blackwood Valley wine is crafted using techniques commonly associated with much more expensive Chardonnay. From there, the trio tastes Beulah Wines’ 2023 Shiraz, a bright, medium-bodied expression grown by the Nield family, before discovering Andrew’

Approximately 1,000 bottles made. One vintage only. Never to be produced again. TTT stands for Thirty-three Ticino Terroirs, with Merlot selected from 33 different sites across Switzerland’s Ticino wine region. When we filmed this tasting, @INVIDIA_WINES had only 24 bottles remaining in their warehouse after securing the final stock available from the winery. The verdict? Succulent. Juicy. Plummy. And a genuinely impressive expression of Swiss Merlot. 🍷 Would you open something this rare or leave it safely in the cellar? #GotSomme #InvidiaWines #SwissMerlot #Ticino #SwissWine #RareWine #WineTasting
videoDoes a tiny production automatically make a wine exceptional?
Does a tiny production automatically make a wine exceptional? Carlos has tasted plenty of rare, heavily allocated wines that failed to live up to the hype. TTT is a different story. It was an experimental Swiss Merlot produced only once, in 2021, with approximately 1,000 bottles made before the winemaker passed away. All remaining winery stock has now been sold, with @INVIDIA_WINES purchasing the final available bottles. But once you remove the rarity and the story, does the wine itself deliver? Type SWISS WINE below and I'll send you this small allocation episode. #GotSomme #InvidiaWines #RareWine #SwissWine #WineAllocation #Merlot #WinePodcast
videoAround 1,000 bottles were made. There will never be another vintage. 🍷
Around 1,000 bottles were made. There will never be another vintage. 🍷 TTT was an experimental Swiss Merlot produced only in 2021, during the late winemaker’s final year. Every bottle held by the winery has now been sold. When we recorded this episode, just 24 bottles remained in the warehouse. So, naturally, @Angus_OL opened one. Made with Merlot selected from 33 different terroirs across Ticino, this is one of the rarest wines we have tasted on Got Somme. But does an extraordinary story automatically mean an extraordinary wine? A huge thank you to @INVIDIA_WINES for trusting us with this incredibly special bottle.
