West of the city of Gorizia in northeastern Italy, there is a group of hills known as Collio where Gradis’ciutta is situated. The Isonzo River flows through this hilly stretch to the southeast, towards the Judrio creek to the northwest, and in the south it merges into the Friulian plain. Appreciated not only for its wines, but also for fruit and olive oil, Collio was once a backdrop for skirmishes during the Great War. Today, the area is synonymous with high-quality white wines. Before carrying the name Gradis’ciutta, the vineyard area was known as Monsvini, which in Latin means “Mount of Wine.” The soul behind the constantly evolving reality of Gradis’ciutta is Robert Princic, who got his start in wine at a young age, spending time in the vines every harvest with his hardworking parents, Isidoro and Ivanka. Today, Robert continues to carry th

videoStephane Tissot - Vin Jaune Pioneer from Jura
Stephane Tissot is a pioneer of making Vin Jaune in Jura. Of course, whilst we say pioneer, he did not invent the so-called "Yellow Wine" of the region which has been made for many centuries, BUT he was the first to identify and prove the power of Terroir on this oxidative wine technique. He has done this by making Vin Jaune wines on his specific plots of different soil types, which was previously not seen as that important in differentiating between the Vin Jaune characteristics. Most Vin Jaune producers will assemble all the plots they have from all different soil types into their production of Vin Jaune, and the importance of the barrels and cellar was given the focus. Stephane Tissot however, has showcases in his range of Vin Jaune the stark differences the soils from Trias and Lias create even with an oxidative style, which can be quite powerful. This is why he is a pioneer of Vin Jaiune, and in our mind and many others with his very low intervention methods to let the wines sh
