Merryvale
Here are the beautiful grounds at Merryvale. Today we share one of the longstanding houses in Napa. Merryvale’s historic building was the first winery built in the Napa Valley after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933 and has become a favorite destination for visitors to the valley. This is a beautiful wine country setting, surrounded by French oak barrels and casks. I’ve enjoyed visiting this beautiful property many times and the surrounding serene vineyards. The property is owned by the Schlatter family. They have been making their ‘Profile’ red blend for many years and this years edition for my palate was the finest one yet! They have produced a brilliant range of wines and I adore the 2021 Merryvale ‘Profile’ Red Wine (OB, 97) which is a stunning wine from this warm vintage. This one even eclipses the incredible ’19 bottling. Learn more at https://www.merryvale.com and here are the beautiful new wines by Merryvale. 2022 Merryvale ‘Sonoma Coast’ Chardonnay- The 2022 ‘Sonoma Coast’ Cha

Ep 278 - Oceanic Wine Explained: Can You Taste the Sea? with Chris Howard
Can You Taste the Sea? In this episode of Eat Sleep Wine Repeat, Janina dives into the fascinating and potentially controversial idea of Oceanic Wine with wine writer, judge and educator Chris Howard . Chris has proposed that oceanic wine should be considered a category in its own right, exploring what happens when the sea becomes one of the dominant forces shaping a vineyard and the wine in your glass. But what actually makes a wine oceanic rather than simply coastal? Chris explains why proximity alone isn't enough, and how wind, fog, salt, temperature, exposure and geography can all influence vineyards in very different ways. From California's Sonoma Coast and coastal Chile to Tasmania, Margaret River, South Africa and New Zealand, this episode explores Wine Regions where the ocean may play a defining role. The conversation also asks one of the most intriguing questions in Wine Education: when tasters describe salinity, iodine, oyster shell or sea spray, are we genuinely tasting the

May 18: The Anniversary of the Khodynka Tragedy
Today is the anniversary of the Khodynka Tragedy. 1,389 people were trampled to death in a park in Moscow during the coronation celebrations of Russian Tsar Nicholas II in 1896. The tragedy served to make the Russian people think the reign of Nicholas II was cursed and eroded the public trust to the degree it made it that much easier for the Bolsheviks to seize power in 1917. So, what happened? Well, typically during coronation celebrations, the new Tsar lays a bunch of free stuff on the celebrators, particularly beer and pretzels. All well and good, I personally think our elected leaders should do the same, but this time, false rumors began spreading through the huge crowd, saying there weren't enough pretzels and beer to go around, causing a mass panic and deadly trampling. So, what's the lesson here? If you're going to throw a shindig, always make sure the beer and pretzels are right up front, so no one gets the idea to freak out and start stepping on people.

Why “Everyone Else Drinks Normally” Is A Lie

Glenmorangie introduces Signature Serve Ritual for Original 12 Years Old
The ritual accompanies the recent transition of the expression from 10 to 12 years of ageing. According to the company, the extended maturation is aimed at delivering greater depth, creaminess and balance to the whisky’s profile. The Signature Serve Ritual includes a Glenmorangie-inscribed ice cube designed for slow dilution, along with a dehydrated orange slice clipped to the rim of the glass to accentuate the whisky’s citrus-forward notes. The Glenmorangie Original 12 Years Old features notes of orange, peach, apricot, vanilla, honey and almond, with a smooth finish.
