His wife, Celine Villars-Foubet is the owner of the estate, and together they have brought this château to new heights in quality and prestige. Photo: Jean Pierre Foubet. Credit: ROLAND COIFFE & ASSOCIÉS According to Jane Anson, in her book "Inside Bordeaux": "One of the star estates of Moulis, Chasse-Spleen is one of only two that I can think of that would have a fair chance of being recognized if the 1855 ranking were to be carried out today" With their modern outlook, but respect for tradition, they have kept the wine on a path of constant improvement. They have transformed their château into a natural and man-made paradise, one that marries tradition with modernity in the form of art. podcast· 31:56· S12E2Algerian Wine Then & Now | S12E2
This episode winds its way through Algerian's long, controversial wine history to the present day efforts to revive it. Only 100 years ago, Algeria overcame everything from jackals, fungus, phylloxera (complete with phylloxera deniers), colonial infighting, slander, war, and a plague of locusts to rank among the top four wine-producing countries in the world. Now efforts to produce and export quality wines often face an economic and political challenges fraught with ideology. Your host laments about "why we can't have nice things," but then some hope crops up portending that …maybe we can? podcast· 47:44· S4E11Burgundy - The Tipping Point?
Has Burgundy gone bonkers?! Off the back of a nightmare 2021 season, wines are in shorter supply than ever - so prices have gone through the roof. Again. The wines are unquestionably good. That's what Burgundy does. But as the region's wines gradually become ever-more scarce and atypical - and ever-less affordable - how long will wine lovers stick with Burgundy? Will we look back in 20 years and say: that was the tipping point when Burgundy finally lost touch with reality?! These are just some of the no-nonsense questions we're posing in this fresh take on an archetypal wine region where bucolic tradition is increasingly on a collision course with fast-moving reality. We explore the 2021 vintage as a springboard to discussing the bigger picture in Burgundy - in which climate change looms large, as does the issue of pricing (with a bit of mysterious vine death along the way). Stardust gets a mention. As for the wines - will we see Chardonnay being replaced by the likes of Savagnin, and
