podcast· 37:29Inside Napa Valley: Gus Kalaris on Wine Trends, Wine Myths & Building Axios
Check out all the great events Laurie has on the calendar in 2026 on her website at TheWineCoach.com/events including my wine comedy show Wine & Punchlines on 2/27 in Bridgeville, DE. In this episode of The Sipping Point , Laurie sits down with Gus Kalaris—founder of Constantine Wines and the visionary behind Axios Napa Valley—to talk about what’s really happening in the wine world right now. From shifting wine trends to the myths that just won’t die, Gus brings decades of experience as an importer, distributor, and luxury wine brand founder to the table. We dive into the evolution of premium wine, what consumers are getting right (and very wrong), and how Axios became one of Napa’s most respected luxury labels. Plus, we explore Gus’s passion for crafting a Pomerol-style red blend from his Calistoga estate and how heritage, philanthropy, and long-term vision shape his approach to wine. If you love insider insights, myth-busting, and a great Napa story—this episode is for you. 🍷 Wines

THE STATE OF TO-GO BOOZE IN CALIFORNIA
If you have an on-sale liquor license in California, knowing whether or what alcohol you can sell “to-go” is even more confusing now than it was before Covid. During the pandemic, the California ABC relaxed rules and allowed restaurants and bars to exercise privileges – like sell sealed bottles to-go and pre-mixed cocktails or glasses of wine to-go - that weren’t allowed before. Then, as of January 1, 2022, some allowances were taken away, while others were made permanent (by way of new laws). So as an ABC-licensed California restaurant or bar, what can you do, and what can’t you do, now?
podcast· 37:40· Ep 597Ep 597: Lodi, California -- The Past, Present, and Future of this Historic Region
This week I cover Lodi, California, an historic wine region in the Central Valley of California that has been growing grapes since the 1850s. Located 40 miles /64 km south of Sacramento and 90 miles/ 145 km east of San Francisco, Lodi is an often overlooked wine region, despite the fact that it has been recognized as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) since 1986. Lodi AVAs. Source: Lodi Winegrape Commission Lodi doesn't lack for vineyard land --today the region has 100,000 acres/ 40,500 ha planted to wine grapes, with 750 growers, 80 wineries, and about 65 tasting rooms. 20% of California's total wine is made from Lodi grapes. The AVA also has the highest concentration of old vines in California. Photo: Bechthold Vineyard planted 1886. podcast· 6:30COMO O VINHEDO DETERMINA A QUALIDADE DO VINHO?
podcast· 38:49· Ep 497From Vineyards to AI: How Technology Is Shaping the Future of Wine with Laurent David.
Wine and tech have had their disagreements. There are pundits on both sides of the fence of tech in wine and when I heard there was a LA Wine Tech booth at Wine Paris, I had to explore. I reached out to the head guy (he doesn't really have a title), Laurent David to explore the opportunity to set up a podcast right there at the show. He agreed and here it is. Wine Paris has become one of the largest wine shows in the world, with over 6000 wine booths and dozens of seminars, let alone a chance to taste some of the most well known wines in the world, it is easy to understand the throngs of people who attend. Laurent David traded launching iPhones for nurturing vines—now that's what you call an unusual upgrade. On this episode of Wine Talks, you'll get a rare look at the crossroads where Apple-level tech meets centuries-old Saint-Émilion winegrowing, straight from Laurent David himself. But you won't just hear tales of grape and gadget; you'll discover why the wine world is not as disconn

From the Roundtable: A more efficient approach to vineyard sustainability
In this From the Roundtable episode, I'm joined by Toby Webb and Dr Peter Stanbury to discuss SWR's recent decision to combine some efforts from our Labour Standards and Sustainable Viticulture Protocol workstreams under the umbrella of The Sustainable Vineyard . The existing work and plans in each action area won't change - rather they will work together where relevant and appropriate. This approach reflects the realities on the ground: social and environmental issues are often intertwined and managed by the same small teams in the vineyard. Peter and Toby explain what this means in practice and how collaboration can increase efficiency, reduce costs, and drive more impact.

Rewiring the Brain: How Deep TMS and Ketamine Are Revolutionizing Mental Health and Addiction Recovery
Have you ever wondered how brain science is influencing mental health treatment? In today's episode, I speak with Dr. Colleen Hanlon, the Vice President of Medical Affairs of Brainsway. Dr. Hanlon, who specializes in neurobiology and has pioneered work in therapies such as deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and ketamine, discusses how these creative approaches are helping people recover from depression, PTSD, and addiction. Dr. Hanlon and I talk about the science behind TMS and ketamine therapy, why they're effective, and who might benefit the most. We look at how TMS activates certain brain networks to aid recovery, such as rousing up drowsy regions of the brain associated with depression, and how ketamine provides quick relief, particularly for people in immediate need. Furthermore, we discuss how combining TMS and ketamine may improve outcomes for specific individuals. If you're interested in mental health or looking for alternative treatment options, you'll benefit greatl

videoThe ‘’Heavy Bottle'' BIAS: How Packaging CHANGES THE TASTE of wine!
Our latest video, presented by Bordeaux-trained French winemaker and host Julien Miquel, delves into the bias inherent in how consumers perceive wine quality based on its packaging, particularly the weight and thickness of the glass bottle. Miquel observes that more expensive, "premium" wines are consistently sold in heavier, thicker-glass bottles with fancier, more elaborate labels, while cheaper wines use light, thin glass. This practice is intentional, playing on the consumer's subconscious assumption that heavy bottle equals good wine. Miquel explains that this premium packaging—featuring complex, expensive labels with special paper, inks, embossing, and varied finishes, along with thick, heavy bottles often featuring a deep punt—costs wineries more money. This cost is passed on, reinforcing the link between high price and elaborate packaging. Critically, some bottles can weigh as much as 1 kg (2.2 pounds) for the glass alone, compared to the wine's weight of 750 grams (1.6 pounds
