Drew Damskey
Daedalu, Drew, Daisy and Dan. Our guests today are Drew and Daisy Damskey, who join Dan Berger and Daedalus Howell on California Wine Country. Drew’s father and Daisy’s husband Kerry Damskey has been on this show several times, most recently on this episode of March 1, 2023 . The first wine in our glasses is a 2023 Semillon, made by Drew Damskey for Palmieri Wines . This white wine grape is relatively common in Hunter Valley in Australia. It is also the grape used for white Bordeaux and is a common blending grape. This Semillon comes from a vineyard planted in 1886 and is the second oldest Semillon vineyard in the world, called Monte Rosa vineyard. The vineyard is at the top of Moon Mountain which is above the town of Sonoma in the Mayacama range. Drew considers it to be ideal for Bordeaux varietals. They make about 75 to 100 cases of this wine per year. That 2023 Semillon has some of clean, crisp freshness of Sauvignon Blanc but with the weight, richness and texture of a Chardonnay. D

videoCan Wine Save the Planet Diary Day 7 Syncline Columbia Gorge Washington
So, can wine save the planet? Wine is an agricultural product, just like vegetables. But you are much more likely to be able to tell me what winery your wine was from than what farm your avocado was from. Wineries are about telling their stories, and this story will help spread the word about these regenerative farming methods. These vintners are paying it forward for the planet, and you can, too, by supporting them and encouraging other vineyards and farms to incorporate these methods. Pay it forward, sharing their stories with your friends. On our site, https://CanWineSavethePlanet.com, you’ll find Several Videos that explain the project and how you can get involved You can also Make a Donation if that moves you. If you believe, as we do, that change is possible, we would love your help. We hope you will join our ever-expanding network. This is a multiyear project with 3 feature films and other short videos for film festivals. Sign up for the email list at the bottom of ou

The Wine Makers – The Rebel School of Wine with Tyler Balliet & Morgan First
For a long time, it was easy for some to dismiss the wine world that Tyler Balliet and Morgan First have spent the last 20 years carving out for themselves as frivolous or unserious. Second Glass, the zine Tyler started while working one of her first wine jobs, was a far cry from the glossy or stodgy wine publications that ruled the day. Their blockbuster tasting events, Wine Riot, sold out cities across the country but were often overlooked by the wine establishment in favor of posh Food & Wine festivals or a leading critic’s “master class.” Their Rosé Mansion pop-up experience was packed day in and day out by an audience much of the wine world didn’t realize it needed… until it was almost too late. Now, fresh off Tyler’s James Beard Award nomination for her book The Rebel School of Wine, mainstream wine is finally listening. We sat down with Tyler and Morgan during a California tour that included speaking engagements at the DTC Wine Symposium (perhaps you’ve heard of it) and the Unif

podcast· 53:50· S9E87E87 - Felicity Carter · In Defense of Wine
In this episode of Read Between the Wines, we explore a question that rarely gets asked: why has the conversation around wine and alcohol changed so dramatically in recent years? For centuries, wine was simply part of life — part of the table, part of culture, part of how people gathered and shared moments together. Today, however, headlines increasingly frame alcohol through a very different lens. To understand what's happening, host Pierre Ferland sits down with award-winning journalist and Drinks Insider founder Felicity Carter, one of the most respected investigative voices covering alcohol policy and the global drinks industry. Drawing on decades of reporting, Felicity explains how alcohol debates are shaped not only by science, but also by media narratives, cultural shifts, advocacy networks, and political incentives. But beyond policy and statistics lies a deeper question: what role does wine play in human connection, pleasure, and everyday life? A thoughtful and provocative con

Russian River to East River: Sharing West Sonoma County Wines with Gramercy Park’s Cultural Elite
Last week, I ventured from Halleck Vineyard Winery and Wine Tasting Room in Sonoma to the Sculptor Garden Room of the historic National Arts Club in Manhattan’s Gramercy Park to pour our California wines for a room full of artists, philanthropists, and musicians. It was my second Sonoma Wine Education Seminar at the club, and it was completely full—oversold, in fact. I designed this event with intention: shorter than a traditional vintner dinner, more welcoming to people with all levels of wine knowledge,…
