videoCan Wine Save The Planet Day 05 Diary Hedges Family Estate Washington
Hedges Family Estate & Sarah Hedges Goedhart This is a family business. Tom and Marie Hedges began this winery and vineyard, but much of the work has now fallen to their children. Their son, Christophe, is the General Manager, and their daughter, Sarah Hedges Goedhart, is the head winemaker. Sarah and her brother are passionate about caring for this land and the planet. Sarah got hooked on wine when she was going to school in Santa Barbara. She worked in a tasting room there, managed to do a harvest, and then found herself at Preston, an organic farm and winery in Healdsburg. She and her husband then headed back to Washington to work with her brother and parents at the family winery. She worked on the garden, helped with hosting guests, and then worked as the Assistant Winemaker to her Uncle before taking over as winemaker when he retired in 2015. #wineregions #drinkwine #documentary #canwinesavetheplanet #harvest #wine #biodynamicwine #discoveringtheworld #discoveringwinecountr

Oh lord, a blog from Lodi—the 2025 farewell
Harvest morning in Mokelumne River-Lodi's Abba Vineyard, planted to Syrah. Farewell by Randy Caparoso Oh lord, a blog from Lodi was the title of the very first blog posted on the Lodi Wine page in August 2010, written by yours truly. Over 1,200 posts later, I think it is fitting that this should be the title of my very last post, as I will departing Lodi wine country in July of 2025. First, I’d like to thank all the region’s growers and vintners who have welcomed me into their community these past fifteen years. But also first, I need to thank you , Lodi Wine’s dear and patient readers who have indulged in this site’s continuous flights and forays into viticulture and vinification, farmers, winemakers and all the characters peppering the region’s past and present, the seemingly endless variety of grapes and equally varied wines, almost every iota of the dirt, topography, climate and natural or human circumstances—each and everything that has di

podcast· 33:11· Ep 499Inside Bordeaux: Wine, Terroir, and Emotional Experiences with Dominique Arangoits
When I visited Paris in 1993, I had been helping my parents sell my grandmothers house. My father said "we are taking you and Sandra to Tour D'Argent." THe whole story for another time. My father spoke French to the Sommelier and asked for the 1945 Lafite Rothschild...an epic of the epics. At that time, it was $3,500. As the Sommelier presented the bottle in it's wicker carrier, the age of the crust and the caking of the dust was admiarable. There was considerable ullage (the air gap bewteen the cork and the wine). In French, my father suggests "Open it, it is fine, I buy it, if is over the hill, you buy it "...the reply? "Non, Monsieur" He order the 1962 Cos D'Estrournel. So when I heard the Techinical Director, Dominique Arangoits was in town, I had to sit for a podcast. I can guarantee you that my French is much better now. Dominique Arangoits wasn't raised on grand cru vineyards or surrounded by the opulent châteaux that so often feature in Bordeaux lore. Instead, he began his stor

videoCan Wine Save the Planet Diary Day 04 Wilrdige Winery Washington
Wilridge Vineyard, Winery & Distillery and Paul Beverage Paul Beverage has a name that leans into his industry. As a child, he and his family would go wine tasting in Napa. Of course, at the time, in the late 60s and early 70s, he was too young to taste, but he remembers the smells of the cellars and caves in Napa, and he loved it. This might sound very fancy. It wasn’t. His father was studying to be an Episcopal priest who appreciated wine. The family moved to Idaho, close to the Washington border, and with his father’s love of wine, parishioners would often share a bottle. He met some of the early names in Washington Wine through the parish and then through college in Walla Walla. He worked for a law firm in Seattle and then as an environmental lawyer in DC. He got into brewing (fermented beverages really seemed to enchant him.) Eventually, he opened the winery in Seattle and fought state laws to have a “wine pub” where food could also be served. He still has a Pie Wine B
videoSpanish Wine in 10’ – BETTER than YOU THINK!
While Spain's wine image is often reduced to bold, oaky Rioja reds, the country's vast vineyard area—the largest in the world—yields an incredibly diverse range of wine styles. This diversity is rooted in its numerous official wine regions, known as Denominaciones de Origen (DOs), and its hundreds of native grape varieties. The geographic differences between DOs illustrate this variety. In the cool, wet northwest region of Galicia, the Rías Baixas DO produces crisp, zesty white wines from the Albariño grape, a perfect contrast to the heavy reds typically expected. Conversely, in the hot southern region of Andalucía, the Jerez DO is famous for Sherry, a fortified wine that spans from bone-dry, salty Fino to intensely sweet, thick Pedro Ximénez (PX) dessert styles. Meanwhile, in the northeast's Catalonia, winemakers produce Cava, Spain's acclaimed sparkling wine made using the traditional Champagne method from native grapes, offering a festive alternative to still wines. Nearby, Priorat
