A Holiday Party + Pomander Punch Recipe
Image courtesy of Sarah Ehlinger. For me, it doesn’t really get more festive than a cocktail party that doubles as holiday arts and crafts hour. And chickens. Always AND CHICKENS. So we decided another wreath-making party was due. You can see the first one we did waaaaay back in the way back times here . There is just something really, really satisfying about decorating a wreath (shout-out to Trader Joe’s pre-made holiday wreathes that are so easy to customize), and being able to take it home and hang it on your door or wall for the season. What makes it even more meaningful is the way you have to navigate around chickens stomping through the crafting table. It would be too easy to just make wreathes without a poultry obstacle course, wouldn’t it? Nobody needs easy wreathes. Image courtesy of Sarah Ehlinger. Let’s also add an easy, batched sparkling punch to the mix…this crowd-pleasing Pomander Punch is inspired by the clove- studded oranges of ye olden Victorian times. Actually

Drinking with Chickens Day Soiree 2025
This party and post brought to you in partnership with Griffo Distillery and is intended for a 21+ audience. All images courtesy of Thalita Mangin Photography When I first registered National Drinking with Chickens Day alllllllllll the way back in 2019, I didn’t really have any concrete plans for the concept other than I just personally found it incredibly amusing to have a national day. At the last minute, we threw together a party at our old house—it was nothing fancy or big, but it was ALAWT of fun. And right then and there, I knew I wanted to turn it into a public event. So that was the ol’ plan for 2020. Annnnnnnnnnnnnd then 2020. And a subsequent five years of really demanding life stuff that prevented us from doing anything more than social media celebrations. And in that time, I’ve watched this ridiculous thing, this National Drinking with Chickens Day, grow into a giant, viral thing. Who woulda thunk. WHO WOULDA THUNK?!!! So here we are: 2025. This was the first

International Drinking with Chickens Day 2025
Get ready for the most wonderful time of the year! International Drinking with Chickens Day is Friday, May 23rd and here’s your full guide on how to join in on the celebration. WHAT IN THE…? Drinking with Chickens Day is one big (inter)national excuse to get together and drink in the company of poultry. And while yes, yes it’s true that every day can be Drinking with Chickens Day….this is the day where a party is mandatory. And a theme. I didn’t make the rules. Actually, that’s a lie, I definitely made the rules. But I digress. This year’s theme: Caftans, Cocktails, and Chickens. What does that mean? It means we’re going to dress in our finest caftans like the ladies of leisure that we are, sip fancy drinks and pet fancy chickens. And for the guys (or anyone who doesn’t want to rock a caftan—but also, bonus points for any guy who wants to rock a caftan), we’re thinking this translates to smoking jackets + ascots, or some sort of vacay-vibes yachtwear (tropical shirts, captain’s

The Parrot Room
This post is brought to you in partnership with Spoonflower.com . What do you do when you inherit a 32-year-old Blue & Gold Macaw from your childhood best friend’s (still my best friend) mom? Well, obvi you design a room around him. Meet Max. He came to live with us just after we moved into this house in 2022. It was decided that the best place for his GINORMOUS blue cage was the dining room—which was and still is being used as my office space (until we can build out my future chicken studio space). Putting a macaw in my office was definitely…a choice. There is nothing more professional on a work call or zoom meeting than a macaw screaming or singing opera in the background. It’s fine! It’s fine. We hadn’t gotten started yet on any home remodeling projects when Max arrived, and so the office was still very much a blank white slate (if you’ll recall, our 1940’s Monterey Revival style home had unfortunately fallen into the hands of some pretty unskilled flippers who tried to turn

Spiced Summer Strawberry Spritz
This is a sponsored post in partnership with Rooster Rojo Tequila intended for a 21+ audience only. When Rooster Rojo Tequila reached out for me to try their new Tequila Ahumado in a cocktail, it seemed like a pretty good little brand synergy, wouldn’t you say? Not only was it a no-brainer because: CHICKENS….and also because: TEQUILA, but furthermore, I was very, very curious to try this interesting-sounding smoked reposado variation. You read the word ‘smoked’ and you immediately think: mezcal. But no—it isn’t like that. This is a mellow, warm tequila that has the loveliest notes of smoke in both the aroma and the taste. I knew, right off the bat, I wanted to put this lovely tequila into a summertime spritz. And strawberries seemed like a pretty good move. AND, if you want to get extra fancy and spend a little bit more time on this drink (or if you just happen to be making this drink at a summer BBQ), throw those strawberries on the grill and get some char on them. It’s a littl
