That is just one of the life lessons Larry Freeborg talks about in his book, "Always At Choice: Strategies for Moving on After the Death of a Spouse or Life Trauma." Larry was forty years old when his wife died from acute leukemia on the day after Christmas. He became a widower with four young children. Larry started his life over during a recession, with no job, no money, and no partner to help him raise his children. He discusses what he learned, what helped, and what's important. A Tour of Wine Grapes: Mourvedre
Mourvèdre & Monastrell🍷 Photo by Pancrat on Wikimedia Commons Mourvèdre is a thick-skinned, late-ripening red wine grape native to Spain, where it is known as Monastrell. Though it originated on the Iberian Peninsula, it has also found a famous secondary home along France’s Mediterranean coast and Southern Rhône Valley. In Spain, Monastrell is frequently bottled as a single-varietal wine. In France, however, Mourvèdre (moohr-VED-ruh) is rarely bottled alone; instead, it is blended with Grenache and Syrah to create famous GSM wines. Monastrell (moh-nah-STRELL) wines from Spain’s hot, intensely arid, and semi-desert environments are very fruit-forward, smooth, and tend to be high in alcohol. Aromas include blackberry, dark chocolate, licorice, and smoke. GSM blends from France incorporate Mourvèdre to add structure and deep color to Grenache and Syrah. Well, obvi you design a room around him. Meet Max. He came to live with us just after we moved into this house in 2022. It was decided that the best place for his GINORMOUS blue cage was the dining room—which was and still is being used as my office space (until we can build out my future chicken studio space). Putting a macaw in my office was definitely…a choice. There is nothing more professional on a work call or zoom meeting than a macaw screaming or singing opera in the background. It’s fine! It’s fine. We hadn’t gotten started yet on any home remodeling projects when Max arrived, and so the office was still very much a blank white slate (if you’ll recall, our 1940’s Monterey Revival style home had unfortunately fallen into the hands of some pretty unskilled flippers who tried to turn
