Certified Italian Wine Ambassador Greg Martellotto breaks down the 1,247 climats that make up this legendary region. On this hillside, inches matter. A simple stone wall, a fault line, or a slightly thi

videoUnderstanding Navarra DO. Terroir, Grapes and Five Subzones
Navarra is famous for its rosado wines, but there's much more to this northern Spanish wine region than rosé. In this Mastering Spain episode, I explore the Navarra DO (Denominación de Origen), explaining its grape varieties, climate, soils and five distinct wine-growing subzones. From Garnacha and Tempranillo to Chardonnay and Viura, discover how Navarra's diverse geography influences the wines produced across this fascinating region. We'll begin with Navarra's winemaking history, including the devastating impact of phylloxera, before exploring the region's changing identity and the development of its red, white, rosé and sweet wines. I'll explain how the cooler, wetter vineyards near the Pyrenees contrast with the warmer, drier conditions of the Ebro Valley. We'll also examine the influence of altitude, limestone and alluvial soils, and the Cierzo wind on viticulture and wine styles. Then we'll explore Navarra's five wine-growing subzones in detail: Tierra Estella, Valdizarbe, B

videoCan B.C. Wines Age?
I was fortunate to purchase 2 older B.C. wines direct from the winery I wanted to review them. Tinhorn Creek was established in 1993 by the Shaunessy and Oldfield families. It is one of the premier estate wineries located in the Golden Mile Bench sub-appellation in Oliver, B.C. It was purchased in 2017 by Andrew Peller Estates, a large Canadian wine company. The Tinhorn Creek 2014 Pinot Noir Oldfields Reserve is partial whole cluster, partial native ferment, and partially aged in new French oak for 18 months. For more information about the winery, please visit their website at https://www.tinhorn.com/ Osoyoos Larose is winery in the Okanagan, B.C. Canada. In 1998, the Taillan Group, owners of Gruaud Larose, a 2nd growth winery in Bordeaux, purchased this vineyard. Their vision was to create a world-class Canadian wine from classic Bordeaux varietals. Their inaugural vintage was 2001 2013 was a transition year for the winery as founding winemaker Pascal Madevon was being repla
