S2E4: Harvest in Burgundy
This special episode documents our experience harvesting in Burgundy during Vendanges 2022. We spend our time picking grapes for our dear friends Tomoko and Guillaume of Chanterêves. Tomoko walks us through every step of their winemaking process -- from selecting in the vineyards, to fermentations, pressing, and barreling down-- allowing us to experience the metamorphosis of a great wine. Towards the end of harvest we stop in at Domaine Bruno Clair in order to get a vintage perspective from the Côte de Nuits. This unique episode is meant to capture the sounds and feelings of a true Burgundian harvest -- so you should expect it to sound a bit different, and a bit more off-the-cuff than our typical episodes. We'll be back with our full exploration of the Côte d'Or with a full episode dedicated to white burgundy next month! This episode is created by Brenna Quigley, Nick Canepa, and Jeff Alvarez. With support from Esa Eslami, Ali Massie, and our Grand Cru Patron Steve Lipin. This episode
podcast· 1h 01m· Ep 51Alice Feiring - To Fall in Love Drink This, Ep. 51
The Marys are honored to have wine writer extraordinare Alice Feiring on our pod! Acclaimed wine writer Alice Feiring has been in love with wine for decades. She started her sensory training at very young age, sniffing everything along with her grandfather. Little could she have imagined then growing up to be the OG natural wine movement writer, or the person to take down the homogenous ”Parkerization” of wine, a style favored by one wine critic that changed the way many wines around the world were - and still are made. Now Alice has released her sixth book, To Fall in Love Drink This: A Wine Writer’s Memoir. But as you’ll find out in her engaging chat with us, the Marys, Alice’s is not your typical wine memoir. Instead of touting the great vineyards she’s visited or wines she’s tasted, she recounts an escape from a serial killer - and her reconnection with the perpetrator, and she gives wine recommendations to a plumber, to help him fall in love. You’ll want to get your hands on her b
Courez-y les amis ! 004: Top 3 Common Challenges (and how to approach them) for New Growers
Starting a vineyard is exciting, but it also presents some unique challenges that new growers are often unprepared for. videoModern Residential Wine Cellar Design in Texas: Window and Cooling Unit Review
Learn more about the features of this modern residential wine cellar design in Texas in this video and link below. https://www.winecellarspec.com/custom-modern-residential-wine-cellar-design/ Let’s take a look into the window design and cooling unit used for this modern residential wine cellar design in Texas. We will show you how large windows fit the design perfectly in terms of aesthetics and function, and what cooling unit was preferred for this type of wine cellar. The large windows allow the wine cellar owners and guests to have a beautiful view of the inside of the wine cellar. This view is great for wine parties that they frequently have. But if they want to keep it hidden and protect the wine bottles from the outside heat, the automatic blackout feature will come in handy. As for the cooling unit, a wine guardian self-contained cooling system was used that sits in the attic. _________________________________ Wine Cellar Specialists 1134 Commerce Drive, Richardson, TX +

podcast· 54:51· S4E2Inside the Fort Knox of Wine
Fancy joining us as we break into the Fort Knox of wine?! It's an old mine and former munitions dump in the middle of the English countryside that now holds over 9 million bottles and £1bn+ of stock. It's one of the biggest such storage facilities in the world and one (whisky) bottle stored there recently sold for £1.2m. Only downside? Security is tight. And you have to climb up 157 steps to get back out. Good thing Peter was actually invited in - and had a 'sustaining' lunch before the journey back up into the real world (including Cheval Blanc 1949, Krug 1996, Domaine Fourrier Clos St Jacques 2005 and Coche-Dury Meursault Genevrières 2010). It's quite the adventure: something of a wine pilgrimage, which makes for a fascinating episode diving into professional wine storage, why some wines and people need it, wine investment...and of course an insight into how those very rare and special wines are tasting. Very much related to the last point, this episode also features the audio treat
