podcast· 10:15We made a Master Sommelier BLIND taste GOON! Bonus Episode
We recorded this episode towards the end of last year but felt it didn't match the seriousness of the podcast trying to find the best value bottle of wine under $30. To celebrate upcoming Season 2 of the podcast we thought we would share this as a bonus because Carlos' reaction was so good to finding out the trick we had played on him 🤣 If you thought the podcast was funny make sure you check it out on YouTube here to see the reaction of a Master Sommelier drinking wine from a bladder.
The Invisible Husband of Frick Island and Where the Frick is My Alcohol?
Anders Caldwell has writing in his blood, so he decides to pursue his story-telling ways through a podcast about a tiny island off the coast of Maryland called Frick Island. The 94 residents on the island only come and go via Bob Dan’s boat, and there is no cell tower or internet, so Anders can take the liberty of sharing all of the islanders’ quirks with the outside world without fear of reprisal. Nothing changes on Frick Island, not the inedibly sweet cake they’re famous for or its lack of alcohol. The folks who live here support each other and even pretend to see dead ex-residents when the need arises. Close knit doesn’t begin to describe their enmeshment. What will happen as the island finally gets a cell tower? Will outside influence tear them apart or draw them together? Hop onto Bob Dan’s boat and see for yourself! Today, we are drinking two non-alcoholic wines that would fit right in on Frick Island and one that is only 10.5% alcohol. The first non-alcoholic wine is a bubbly ro

podcast· 47:19· Ep 52How Important is the Market in the Making of Terroir? In Conversation with Pedro Ballesteros MW
"To cook well, you need people who eat well.” said the Roca brothers, owners of El Celler de Can Roca, a 3-Michelin star restaurant in Girona, Spain. To produce fine wine, do you need fine wine markets? The definition of terroir usually embraces soil, climate and people, the latter usually understood as the people who make the wine. But it’s also true that proximity to a major city or transport node has historically been critical in the development of fine wine. What would Champagne be without proximity to Paris? How would Rioja have developed without the coming of the railroad? And looking forward, what does the current state of international transportation and market development mean for the future of fine wine? To answer these questions and more, we welcome Pedro Ballesteros MW, National expert at OIV, Member of Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino and passionate wine historian.
