Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Amarillo 2021
With a dark amber hue, but wonderful clarity, this skin fermented blend is inviting. The aromas have a fascinating duality about them – the base notes remind me of bananas and custard, with an expressive lactic quality, but the wine Read more The post Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Amarillo 2021 appeared first on .

Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Amarillo 2020
Hazier and wilder than the 2021 vintage of this skin fermented blend. I last tasted this two years ago (2021) when it was just a baby. I had high hopes, but it felt a little sour and cidery on opening, Read more The post Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Amarillo 2020 appeared first on .

Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Blanco 2021
A multi vineyard blend, partially aged in old barrels. There are aromatic and herbal hints on the nose, with something that reminds me of pineapple weed. Loads of ripe fruit explodes on the palate, but there is more than enough Read more The post Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Blanco 2021 appeared first on .

Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Flora 2017
Aged in used barrels where flor yeast developed, this Viognier, Chenin and Grenache Bland blend is bright and energetic with lifted notes of citrus oils and the flor quite evident with that very particular briney rasp. If you’ve ever tasted Read more The post Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Flora 2017 appeared first on .

Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Tempranillo 2021
I love the idea of this lighter, fresher style of Tempranillo, but here there is just not enough fruit to balance the acerbic, drying nature of the tannins. The end result is a bit lean and austere, lacking in drinking Read more The post Nativo (The Hughes Family wines) – Tempranillo 2021 appeared first on .
podcast· 42:51· S1E176The Other Cabernet: Cabernet Franc!
If you think Cabernet Sauvignon is the only Cabernet, you’ve got another think coming (as Joe’s mom used to say). Cabernet Franc is on the rise, and it’s time to get on the bandwagon. Most famously from the Loire Valley, Cabernet Franc has for too long been the understudy to wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, often primarily used as a blending grape. But today you can find Cabernet Franc as the star of the show, bottled as its own varietal from vineyards all over the world. Part of the reason winemakers are starting to make more of it is because it is a wine that does a great job of reflecting the place where it is from - the nerds call that terroir - and so winemakers like it because they can make their own unique versions from wherever they are. We’ll break down what makes this wine different from Cabernet Sauvignon, and we taste and review a couple of Cabernet Francs to save you the trouble. Wines reviewed in this episode: 2022 Henri Bourgeois Wine Petit Bourgeois Cabernet Franc, 2020 K

This is the 50th anniversary of Dehlinger Winery. Darryl has known the family for forty years. Tom Dehlinger was a biochemist and got the wine bug. He studied wine at Davis and worked with some local wineries. Then, bought a property on the corner of Vine Hill Road and Guerneville Road in 1972. He and his brother built an octagonal house in the middle of the property which is iconic. They crushed their first grapes in 1975. Dan Berger started writing about wine at that time and tasted his first Dehlinger wines in 1979. podcast· 39:13· Ep 84IWP Ep84 The Dionysian Manifesto of Châteauneuf du Fargosonini - (Work in Progress)
The Dionysian Manifesto of Châteauneuf du Fargosonini - (Work in Progress) - Alejandro has been reading excerpts of Châteauneuf du Fargosonini 's Dionysian manifesto at tastings around California. We originally recorded it at the wonderful Studio Aurora in San Francisco where he was followed by Sophia Lemaire, wine buyer at Studio Aurora performing a Gregorian chant. We unfortunately had some sound issues on Alejandro's manifesto but we re-recorded it the next day at my house where Alejandro added some context to certain sections, his reading will be followed by Sophia’s performance and some music. I left this as a monologue without me interfering to keep some mystery. I hope you enjoy this unique episode. I wanted to let you know about the Unfiltered Wine festival at Donkey and Goat in Berkely on Saturday July 26. I’ll be there with a booth, Alejandro and other podcast guests like Perch, BXT, Cary Q, North American Press, 2 Shepherds, Florez, Terah, Catch and release, Tessier as well

The Wine Makers – Brian Hurley of Coteau Pavot
Brian Hurley isn’t trying to sell you a polished narrative. The winemaker behind Coteau Pavot tells it like it is, from getting his start in the wine world before he was even legal to drink, to listing every ingredient on his bottles. That includes tartaric acid and malolactic bacteria, the kinds of details that big brands tend to avoid but that spark some surprisingly candid conversations. His wines speak just as clearly. Made from organically farmed grapes sourced from distinctive vineyards, they are fresh, clean, and full of personality. Even his Grenache Gris orange wine manages a rare purity that stands out in a crowded category. These are real wines made by a real person, and they punch far above their weight. If you’re looking for something honest and perfect for summer, this is it. [EP 378] Drinkcp.com @coteaupavot
