podcast· 1h 33m· S6E26Summers in a Family Home in Nantucket to Oxy & Cocaine Addiction, First Term & Felony Strike by 18, Extradition on a Murder Charge, Beaten Nearly to Death in Mexico & More
(If listening through headphones, the first 16 minutes are difficult to hear my husband, but then it evens out - stay with me!!) Part One of my husband's incredible story. Sky grew up in an affluent area of Northern California, spending summers at the family home in Nantucket, surrounded by wealthy families and privilege. A gifted athlete, a knee injury at sixteen threw his entire world off course. Strung out on oxycontin and kicked out of high school his senior year, Sky's world completely crumbled. By the time he was 18 he was doing his first jail term and had a felony strike in California. Not even being extradited at 22 from Florida to California by US Air Marshals and accused of homicide didn't stop his escalating drug use. Part One brings us to Sky turning 29 and beginning a new treatment center in San Diego, the year he also met me. I REALLY want to hear what you guys think of my husband's episode...I am BEYOND proud of him and his vulnerability and strength in this episode. DM

videoCan Wine Save The Planet Solar and wind
Solar Solar is the perfect way to create power for a winery. Most wineries are located in areas where the sun is plentiful (grapes like that). So solar panels can allow vineyards to produce wine, while lowering their energy consumption from the grid. Of course, as Jason at Tablas Creek says, "Every square inch of leaf is like a little photovoltaic cell." That's not just the grapes, but the cover crops! Green Energy in the Vineyard Using regenerative farming techniques in the vineyard is terrific, but eventually, it will take some energy to make wine. Luckily, vineyards grow in sunny places so that the grapes can ripen. Vineyards are harnessing this power from the sun with solar panels in the vineyard and on the winery roof. Many are able to offset their power usage in the winery through this method. In Monterey and Vermont, there are vineyards harnessing wind power with turbines. Session 146 - What Value in Beer?
Yikes, where did the last couple of months go? The cynic side of me says "right down the shitter" whereas the more considered side says "life's just busy". Anyway, it's time for the Session again, and this month is being hosted by Ding and he has asked us to consider the "value" of beer , in the sense of: "when I part with the cash, no matter how large or small the amount, does what I receive in return meet or exceed the value of said cash? Subjective? Sure, but we all have our own sense of value." Yeah, very subjective topic here, but one that I feel gets to the very heart of why we drink beer at all, or at least why we don't submit ourselves to the tyranny of the lowest common denominator brew that is ubiquitous with wherever we live. That's not to say that industrial brews like Budweiser, Carling Black Label, Stella Artois, or Gambrinus are inherently bad, just that they lack value for me. So, yes, let's think about value, at least the word itself. Value is by its very

Duration Crisps and the Emergence of the Savoury IPA
What does it take to start a beer trend? When Brut IPA emerged from San Francisco’s now shuttered Social Kitchen and Brewery back in 2018, the idea was quickly picked up and copied the world over. The style fast-became a simulacrum of itself; based on an idea of a beer, rather than any tasting experiences or proper, boots-on-the ground research. It didn’t matter that the idea of using enzymes to ferment dry was an already years-old brewing technique used, for example, since 2012 by Cornwall’s St. Austell Brewery in its Big Job IPA. What mattered most was that there was a bandwagon to be leapt upon, and countless new SKUs to be sold. Every new version seemed like a less-good example of the one that came before it. I wasn’t surprised when the trend petered out to a whimper just months later. When Cold IPA arrived on the scene in 2022, its existence was met with a similar ‘creative’ fervour. I was lucky enough to interview its originator, Kevin Davey of Oregon’s Wayfinder Beer, around the
