🎧From The Last Frontier to the Aloha Spirit; One Star Winery Reviews
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Buckle up, because we are trading the icy tundra of Alaska for the tropical humidity of Hawaii, and the drama is only getting steamier. In this episode, we dive headfirst into the high-stakes world of craft beer where things aren’t always as "chill" as they seem. We start in Anchorage, exploring a brewery with a three-story view and a management team that handles wedding catastrophes with a side of confiscated booze. But that’s just the appetizer. We’re heading to the islands to investigate a "wind tunnel" brewery where forklifts are allegedly on a kidnapping spree, a server who literally threw cutlery at a child, and a legendary "Battle of the Menu" where a VP’s "talk story" invitation turned into a local legend's war over the loss of true Pub Favorites. From moldy strawberries to the mystery of the invisible Pork Fried Rice, we’re

Ahead of the Federal Budget being handed down tomorrow night by Treasurer Jim Chalmers, Australian Grape & Wine (AGW) has sent out an email to its members informing them of its key proposed measures. The email reads as follows: “Tomorrow night, the Treasurer will hand down the Federal Budget, at a critical moment for Australia’s grape growers and winemakers. May 2026
A trio of obsessions to help me pass the time. . . Food . I’ve been mildly obsessed with home made pork buns. . . The recipe can be found here . The pictured image is attempt 2 of 3, and they were structurally deficient (dough was sloppy and over moist) with several falling apart when cooked. Still they are rewarding and evoke enough memory and joy for me to persist with my clumsy efforts. Words . Even clumsier, is my notebook (in the background) full of poorly composed Chinese characters. I still can’t get my stroke order correct, but as poor as my writing is, it is far more intelligible than my attempts to speak. . . I’ve been using the online resources to sleuth the origin and explanation behind each character. So many Easter eggs. . . It reminds me of my primary school self thumbing through a mini Oxford dictionary, trying to memorise insulting or unusual words. . . Wine. A pair of wine list bottles. Whiskey Review: Jack Daniel's 12-Year Tennessee Whiskey
Introduction Today, we’re diving into Jack Daniel's 12-Year Batch 1. Last week, we tried Jack Daniel's 10-Year, but now we’re stepping up with this older, higher-proof offering. At 107 proof, it feels like a sweet spot for us—enough kick without being overwhelming. The mash bill is Jack’s standard 80% corn, 8% rye, and 12% malted barley, so the main difference here is the time spent in the barrel. This bottle carries an MSRP of $95, so we’re ready to see if the quality justifies the price. This review is taken from our episode " Past Lives / Jack Daniel's 12-Year Tennessee Whiskey ." Click the link to listen to this review in audio fromat. Nose Bob: Right away, even sitting six or eight inches away from the glass, I’m hit with banana pudding. Way more banana than I got on the 10-Year. Brad: Oh yeah, this banana is the most pleasant version of Jack Banana I’ve ever smelled. It’s oaky, with some caramel and brown sugar rounding it out. Ther

Aotearoa Albariño - a fresh take on tradition
Ant Saunders was in Seville when he first fell for the lip‑smacking acidity and salty freshness that make the white Spanish wine, Albariño, such a joy to drink but it was another 26 years before that joy became a business. "When I first tried Albariño in 1998 in Seville, I'd never even heard of it before and the wine that arrived was a revelation - so delicious with that salty taste and acidity that had me coming back for more.”It was a moment that planted a seed which finally sproute...
