It's Sherlock Holmes Day. Why today? Because the master detective's creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, was born on this day in 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. If your a fan of the Holmes stories, you may know that Sherlock was a bit of a sybarite, indulging in stimulative chemicals, pipe tobacco, and booze. He possessed a wide palate when it came to drinking, showing an appreciation for beer, wine, brandy and whisky. But what about Sir Arthur? Did the man behind the legend like a drink? He did. He started drinking port, claret and beer in his early teens while in boarding school and expanded from there. In fact, if you examine his memoirs, it appears Conan merely passed his own drinking and smoking habits to Sherlock. Write about what you know, a wise man once said, and Conan took this sage advice to heart.

Juliette Bécot’s wine career began in 2001 working alongside her father, Gérard, who had made the wines since 1967. When he retired in 2015, Juliette wanted to honor his legacy by having Beau-Séjour Bécot considered among St.-Emilion’s elite. She revamped the winemaking, focusing on freshness, detail and precision. She and her husband, Julien Barthe, oversaw the construction of a new cellar, including new vinification tanks and a range of aging vessels, from barrels to foudres to clay amphorae. Much of the estate’s 54 acres of vines underwent replanting as well. Consulting winemaker Thomas Duclos joined in 2017, technical director Jean de Cournuaud in 2018. This estate is now among those leading the appellation.

Whiskey Review: Remus Babe Ruth Reserve 2025 Bourbon
Introduction We’re back with another premium pour on Film & Whiskey, and this time we’re diving into the 2025 edition of Remus Babe Ruth Reserve, a limited-release bourbon from Ross & Squibb Distillery, better known as MGP. This is the house label for all of their in-house whiskey releases, and the Remus brand has built a strong following in recent years thanks to high-quality blends like the Gatsby Reserve. The 2025 Babe Ruth Reserve blends three different bourbons: two from 2017 and one from 2016, clocking in at 8–9 years old. The mash bills lean rye-heavy, with one blend featuring 51% corn, 39% rye, and 10% malted barley. Bottled at 111 proof, this release is limited to 8,300 bottles: rare enough to feel special, but accessible enough to hunt down. Let’s dive in. Nose Brad: Really like the nose. It's got apricots, got caramel. It gets that kind of sweet mint that I would expect from a rye. It's a really pleasant, not like super complex, but a little b
