Ep 142: From Paso Robles Wine Fanatics to Family Legacies – Featuring Thibido and Ecluse
🍇 Where Wine Takes You – Episode Highlights 🍷 In this episode of Where Wine Takes You, Adam Montiel brings together two voices that showcase the heart and soul of Paso Robles wine country in very different ways. First, Mike Adams , the founder of the Facebook group Paso Robles Wine Fanatics , joins the conversation. What started as a small place to swap tasting notes has grown into a digital community of nearly 25,000 members who share their Paso bottles, adventures, and recommendations every day. Also in studio is Josh Beckett , a name synonymous with Paso. His family launched Peachy Canyon back in the 1980s, he and his brother created Chronic Cellars, and now with his wife Gibsey, Josh is crafting estate wines at Thibido . Most recently, the couple took over one of Paso’s heritage brands, Ecluse Winery , continuing a story of legacy and reinvention that reflects Paso itself. Later in the show, our Travel Paso Spotlight shines on the W hale Rock Music & Arts Festival . Adam chats wi
videoChateau Bourdieu 2023 Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux | Wine Expressed
Chateau Bourdieu dates back to 1464. Located on Bordeaux’ Right Bank in the Cotes de Blaye region. The estates vineyards have a mixture of clay, limestone, and gravel soils. Ideal for Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate covers 180 acres and the vines average a mature 35 years of age. The property today is owned by the Schweitzer family who bring decades of winemaking passion. They meticulously care for the vineyards keeping the vines healthy and yields low. In the winery, they carefully sort the grapes and ferment them in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The grapes macerate for 3 to 4 weeks and then age in the same tanks to retain the bright character of the fruit. podcast· 46:20▻ Don St Pierre of ASC Fine Wines
Don St Pierre Jnr founded ASC Fine Wines in China with his father in 1996, and pioneered the introduction of wine to a nation of Baijiu drinkers. In our “Great Wine Lives” series he talks to Sarah Kemp about the challenges and how he overcame them. It started with teaching people how to use a cork screw, but with a team of passionate local Chinese employees he built a business selling 3 million bottles a year. It wasn’t easy, he even got thrown into jail for 29 days, and while there had to plan Robert Parker’s trip to China a few weeks later! Listen in to hear the story of this remarkable man and find out why after selling his shares in the company in 2014, and heading to California to buy the majority share in Vinfolio, he has returned to China and bought back ASC Fine Wines. video2024 Thanksgiving Day Special - Episode #173
It's time for my Thanksgiving Day Special! In this episode I bought three wines from California producer Turley Wine Cellars. I have a fun selection of three wines. Their 2023 Turley Zinfandel Rosé aka White Zin, the 2022 Turley "Bechtold Vineyard" Cinsault, and finally the 2022 Turley "Juvenile" Zinfandel. While the Juvenile should be pretty easy the find, the other two might present a challenge. I Drink Alone
Is that a weird way to open a blog post? Admitting that I drink alone? Well, it is the truth and I wanted to write about my life more this year, even if it seems a little uncomfortable or difficult. My greatest success and growth has come from laying it all out for the world to see and releasing whatever is inside me that tries to bring me down into the darkness again, silence is my own worst enemy. I think what I mean to say, without trying to downplay my lack of a social life outside my going to work or online, is that I enjoy my own company when I want to relax. After almost 4 decades in working retail, food service and general public facing jobs, I do feel worn down just a tad, the last 4 years have proven even more difficult with the rise of the selfish class, a special breed of hell mongers all their own. It has bled into almost every part of my day, the inward facing, sole spotlight seekers, to whom everyone must revolve for their existenc

podcast· 45:27· S1E180Italian Wine Adventure #18: Primitivo!
This crowd-pleasing wine from Southern Italy’s Puglia region we think is underappreciated and not well-enough known - kind of like Puglia. Genetically identical to Zinfandel, Primitivo can be a rustic red, but when done well, it is fruity, juicy, and wonderfully balanced. There is a reason why Primitivo does so well in the heat of Southern Italy, and it’s the same reason why Zinfandel does so well in California. It is an early ripening grape that needs to reach high sugar levels so that it can create the high alcohol required to balance the fruit and tannin. Primitivo is a fantastic wine for your next cookout, barbecue, or elegant dinner. We also spend a little time talking about 25 cent one ounce pours available from Olive Garden. There is no other reason to go to Olive Garden, but we can’t blame you if you head there for the samples.
