Quick Taste: - 99 Point Vintage Score - Grgich Hills, Robert Craig, Cuvaison Roots! - 3 Barrel Production - 50% OFF - Only available at Wine Express What a find this Phamus Winery was for us! Phamus Wines was founded by Chris Klein and his wife Tandy with their first vintage in 2016. Chris was born in Napa and raised in St. Helena. His family has been involved for many years in the wine industry including an aunt, who worked for Grgich Hills. His parents founded Allora Vineyards, which is where Chris learned winemaking, especially from their winemaker at the time, Rudy Zuidema. Rudy got his first cellar experience at St. Clement Vineyards, where he worked with local winemaker Dennis Johns. From there he climbed the industry ladder with positions at Cuvaison, Honig, Robert Craig, Ehlers Estate and White Cottage Ranch. The name Phamus is an homage to Tandy whose maiden name was Pham. Of course when you add the 'us' to the end, it makes these wines 'Almost Famous'! This is one of those

podcast· 51:30· Ep 580Ep 580: The Grape Miniseries (refresh) -- Tempranillo
It's been 13 years since I've done a grape miniseries on Tempranillo, so it was high time! This grape has come a long way in a decade +, proving that it has more nuance, terroir driven finesse, and versatility than it gets credit for. Tempranillo is now the third most widely planted wine grape in the world, at 231,000 ha/570,000 acres. It is not widely grown outside of Spain but there are growers in 17 countries making a go of it. That said, 88% of Tempranillo's vineyard area is in Spain and most of it is in the northern central parts, with Rioja and Ribera del Duero as the shining stars. Photo: Getty Images via Canva In this show, I go over the DNA and history of the grape and I discuss the many, many names it has. I talk about how it reacts to terroir and its behavior in the vineyard, and why it is so uniquely suited to the special areas in Spain where it thrives. I talk about winemaking and its effect on the grape and then I dive into the aging criteria of Spain (Generico, Crianza,

Navigating Napa and Beyond: Wine Adventures with Paul Kalemkiarian
I can talk about this stuff for days. Get me on a high horse and it is off to the races. I've tasted more wines than most people could ever dare dream of—but what fascinates me isn't just what's in the glass. It's the stories behind the bottles, the regions, and the relentless passion it takes to survive and thrive in the wine trade. In this episode of Wine Talks , I share how a ritual-like discipline led me to taste over 100,000 wines, and what that journey has taught me about the constantly evolving wine industry. I'll take you inside Tuesday morning tastings, reveal why competitors sometimes secretly send each other cases of samples, and unpack how internet sales, supermarket scandals, and shifting consumer habits have redrawn the map of the wine world. But it's not just about business—I'll also show you how to navigate an overwhelming wine aisle with confidence by learning to decode the meaning woven into a label. I'll open a door to emerging wine regions like Armenia, where ancien
