Adam Lee with Clarice Wines
Winemaker Adam Lee is our in-studio guest today on California Wine Country with Dan Berger and Daedalus Howell. He has enjoyed a distinguished career as a winemaker and winery owner and now he runs Clarice Wine Co . The last time Adam was on the show was this episode of July 14, 2021 . “If Adam Lee’s in the room, it’s gotta be Pinot Noir,” says Dan Berger, right at first. They are tasting a wine called Dial Tone, which has a picture of an old telephone dial on the label. For Adam Lee, Clarice should be, “…a very good honest Pinot at a reasonable price point.” It is 100% Pinot Noir with no alterations or additions. It uses the less expensive barrels which work well enough and are cheaper. This helps keep the retail price down. Adam remembers that the first wine he ever fell in love with was a 1989 Rocchioli Pinot Noir. It was great and cost about $13. Now he bottles this Pinot Noir and it retails for $19, so he achieved his goal. “Adam Lee is one of the greatest winemakers in America, p

Whiskey Barber Poles
I like to get my hair cut on the road. I enjoy going to little barber shops in major cities, or in smaller towns. I just love meeting new people in them, and the characters that are so often the barbers. It’s easy to find a barber shop, all you have to do is look for the Barber Pole. That’s the whole concept of what I call, Whiskey Barber Poles. When it comes to wines, I like Pinot Noir’s and Cabernet Sauvingnon. When it comes to beer, I like a Pilner, Ambers, and Pale Ales. That really helps me out when I’m looking at a wine or beer list. You can do the same thing with whiskeys. There are bourbons made with wheat, and there’s only a handful of them, so if you like one of those, it sure helps out to know which ones those are. So I have written down some Whiskey Barber Poles to help you out when you are given a huge bourbon and whiskey list to look over. Life Goes On...
This photo was taken 14 years ago today. Ir means the world to me, even though so much has changed since this seminal moment in The Life of Polk... It was taken at a bar in Blue Mountain, with a man who was my very closest confident and best friend. He got me to order a Harp Lager. Surprisingly, even that euro pint was way out of my comfort zone at the time... But more than that, so much more, it represents a time when I held the world in my hand...at least I felt that way. I was in the middle of the greatest decade of my life, without knowing it, and this pic reminds me that there was a time, a very real time, when I was surrounded by folks who loved and cared for me and who I would do anything for. I didn't realize it would all come to a crashing end, honestly, all at my own actions...but damn, those memories, those special moments, hold me here on this planet harder than any gravitational pull ever could. I miss the people who were so important to me then, I miss who I w
podcast· 31:56246. Self Care vs. Self Love
In this introspective podcast episode, I explore the deep layers of self-love, self-care, and self-awareness. Reflecting on my recent yoga experiences and encounters with insightful teachers, I explore the profound question from Poet Andrea Gibson : Is my attention on loving, or is it on who isn't loving me? I discuss the societal pressures around beauty and aging, acknowledging the fine line between self-care practices and self-love. Drawing from personal experiences and lessons, I invite listeners to consider the transformative power of cultivating self-love as a foundation for all other aspects of life. Key Takeaways: Attention on Love: Reflect on whether your focus is on love, solutions, and self-compassion, or on who isn't loving you or the problems, allowing for mindfulness in the present moment. Cultivating the Witness: Practice moving beyond thought, connecting with your essential self, the unflinching consciousness within you, fostering stability and self-awareness. Embracing

videoDutton Goldfield 2021 Redwood Ridge Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast | Wine Expressed
Fog, redwoods, and a killer Pinot.🍷 Dutton-Goldfield Winery was founded in 1998 when longtime friends and colleagues Steve Dutton and Dan Goldfield united over a shared vision: to craft world-class wines that capture the personality of their vineyards and the cool-climate elegance of their coastal home. Their mission has always been to produce wines of brightness, complexity, structure, and balance—bottles they’d proudly enjoy at their own dinner tables. Steve, a fifth-generation Sonoma County farmer, grew up immersed in vineyard life, working alongside his father, Warren Dutton, a pioneer of grape growing in the western Russian River Valley. What started as a modest 35-acre family vineyard has since expanded to over 1,000 acres across 80 vineyard sites, all carefully managed by Steve alongside his mother and brother, Joe. Dan Goldfield’s journey to winemaking began in research chemistry before a love for the 1969 Burgundies led him to pursue a master’s in Enology at UC Davis. His
