21 days Discovering Northern Italy We are gearing up to share with you our amazing 21 days discovering Northern Italy. We spent 3 weeks exploring Northern Italy, meeting winemakers, exploring regions, tasting delicious wines and visiting cities that put into perspective the age and knowledge of this land. Discovering Vini di Valtellina – Chiavennasca – the Nebbiolo of the Alps Far in the north of Italy’s Lombardia region, tucked between the Rhaetian Alps of Switzerland and the Orobiche Alps in Italy, you find the east-west valley of Valtellina. Here, the Adda River flows from the Swiss Alps through the Valtellina Valley and then out to the west into Lake Como, past Milan, and eventually to the Po River. The Alps protect this region from storms. The rain shadow that is caused means they receive less than 900 millimeters of rain annually. The valley’s north side, which gets the southern exposure, has terraces of vines planted to catch the light. Vineyards here are steep. “Mur

Food To Make You Smile, Beer Service to Forget — The Trading Route, Manchester
Lately, I’ve become obsessed with the concept of what I like to call ‘beer service’. Taking place at the point of a beer being served, it goes beyond what happens in a brewery, or even in a pub cellar. Beer service is when the utmost care is taken by a server when pouring your beer so that it looks as good as it tastes, thus enhancing your overall beer experience to its maximum. There are a few key facets to good beer service. The first is that the glass being used must be sparkling clean, so that no dirt or oils cause bubbles to cling to its side. And so that the server can build a healthy, stable head of foam at the top of the beer. A good head of foam, for me, is an indicator of a beer that is both well made and well poured, and when a beer is served with proper care this foam should cling to the side of the glass as you sip, remaining stable for the duration you spend sipping it. Through good cellar management, staff training, plus regular glass and tap maintenance, excellent beer

"Stepping Up, Being a Father" with James Murdock Jr.
James Murdock, Jr., talks about his experience being part of the DAD Project, a City of Milwaukee Health Department program that works to strengthen the bonds between fathers and their children. Through weekly in-home visits and group sessions, the program supports Milwaukee fathers in engaging in early literacy activities, tracking their child's development, and building a community of fathers. James is, as he says, a father, his most important job. The DAD Project can be accessed at DAD Project . The views and opinions of the guests on this podcast are theirs and theirs alone and do not necessarily represent those of the host, Westwords Consulting or the Kenosha County Substance Abuse Coalition. We're always interested in hearing from individuals or organizations who are working in substance use disorder treatment or prevention, mental health care and other spaces that lift up communities. This includes people living those experiences. If you or someone you know has a story to share

videoCan Wine Save The Planet Climate Chaos
Our planet is in the midst of climate chaos. We are seeing the desertification of land, chaotic rain events and flooding, heat events, and severe drought. Not to mention the plastic and trash littering our globe. Carbon released into the atmosphere shapes our climate, warming parts of the planet and causing glaciers to crumble and jet streams to slow and stagnate. We watch as the world around us changes in unexpected and dangerous ways. Vineyards, both large and small, are embracing farming methods that revitalize their soils. This sequesters carbon and helps mitigate climate change! Climate Chaos means you might be in a drought one year and a flood the next. Northern Italy saw this with a Severe Drought in the summer of 2022 and then heavy rains and flooding in the spring of 2023. Germany saw horrific flooding in Ahr in the summer of 2021, and devastating floods in Northern Germany occurred as recently as January 2024. In South America, El Nino brought severe rain and flooding to

Was ist passiert? Tokio! Never change, Willi!
