podcast· 2h 14m· S6E24Locking Herself in a Trunk on Nitrous, Teenage High Jinks, Breaking Family Patterns of Addiction and Codependency and Turning Tragedy into Legacy with Ashley Walls
I can't wait for you guys to meet today's guest, Ashley Walls. I heard Ashley share at a Twelve Step Meeting a few months ago and was absolutely blown away. At just 21 years old, her wisdom and self awareness are remarkable. Ashley's father was in prison when she was very young, then got out and was sober for many years. Ashley went with him to meetings and fell in love with the program from the sidelines. After nine years sober, her father's relapsed, sending Ashley spiraling. Consciously deciding to begin using substances, Ashley was strung out on benzos by the time she was 18. An early relationship tragedy led to suicidal ideation and and her first foray into substance abuse treatment. Ashley spent the next few years in and out of treatment and relapsing. Eventually landing at a women's facility in San Diego, there she met Polina White, a friend that would change her life. Through their friendship, Ashley and Polina were able to support each other in early sobriety and both began re

Ep 160: Paso Wine by the Sea – Featuring Absolution Cellars | Hearst Ranch Winery
🍇 Where Wine Takes You – Episode Highlights 🌊🐎 In this coastal-meets-cowboy episode of Where Wine Takes You , Adam heads west, all the way to the waterline, for a conversation about tasting rooms by the ocean and how proximity to the Pacific changes the wine experience. First up, Soren Christensen , winemaker for Hearst Ranch Winery , shares what it is like pouring wine across the street from Hearst Castle in San Simeon. With 25 Paso harvests under his belt, including time at Hope Family Wines and Alta Colina, Soren talks about legacy, instinct, and crafting wines worthy of the Hearst name. From Rhône varieties to Bordeaux blends, and even a run-in with ranch longhorns, Soren brings grounded Paso wisdom with an ocean view. Then meet Dirk Neumann , owner and winemaker of Absolution Cellars in Morro Bay. A second-career winemaker who packed up South Florida and moved west without a master plan, Dirk now produces limited-production, single-vineyard wines from across the Central Coast.

podcast· 17:50032 But I love the taste of wine!
Episode Title: But I Love the Taste of Wine Host: Sarah Leather Episode Summary: In today’s episode of I Quit Wine , Sarah dives into a common challenge for people quitting alcohol: “But I love the taste of wine!” Sarah shares her personal story of once loving the taste of wine with certain meals, but realizing that it's not just the taste she was craving. It's the feeling that alcohol provides after those first few glasses, not the taste itself. She explains how our brains have been conditioned to associate certain feelings with the consumption of alcohol, and offers a perspective shift that helps break free from that mindset. Sarah also touches on the role alcohol has played historically in nursing homes and hospitals and how alcohol was used for various purposes in medical settings. She reflects on her own experiences, her changing relationship with alcohol, and how she now feels indifferent or even repulsed by it. Sarah encourages listeners to observe their thoughts about alcohol a

The Wine Makers – Episode 400 and DTC Reflections
Four hundred episodes. In classic Wine Makers Pod style, this one sorta snuck up on us. Technically, we breezed past our 400th episode somewhere in the Monterey fog while recording at the DTC Wine Symposium. So we decided to package two of our favorite DTC interviews with two of our favorite people on the planet, Elaine Chukan Brown and Duskie Estes. Both delivered keynote addresses, bringing the outside perspective we love so much about this conference. Elaine took us on a deep dive into California wine history, showing how past challenges mirror today’s conditions and reminding us that this industry has always found its way forward through collaboration and innovation. Duskie’s story, full of grit and infectious enthusiasm, laid out a path to success built on perseverance and community. On the show, the conversations were mostly what you’d expect from old friends at a great conference; a chance to catch up, laugh, and reflect. To mark the milestone, Brian, Bart, Sam, and Jasmine sat

The Smell of Yeast at Timothy Taylor’s Brewery
Have you ever experienced something felt so deep within your bones you consider it to be life-changing? On Thursday night I attended a performance of Hamlet at Aviva Studios in Manchester, which featured orchestration by Radiohead's Thom Yorke using music from the band’s 2003 album Hail to the Thief . Honestly? I feel changed by it. Such was the intensity and physicality of the performance as a whole that I can’t stop thinking about it. Samuel Blenkin, playing the titular role, was gripping. The way music and dance was weaved throughout meant I couldn’t look away for the whole 90 minutes. It was dark and visceral and unrelenting and sad and funny. Of course, I had to go for a pint and sit down afterwards, to help myself come down. But as I did so I realised in witnessing such a brilliant act of creativity my very soul itself felt nourished. I was full to the brim. There are moments in life, sometimes major, sometimes fleeting, but they leave a permanent mark on you. My first sip of IPA

podcast· 21:41147. Entitlement to a Good Time
Today I’m talking about the entitlement to have a good time. I dive into a powerful and often overlooked mindset that keeps many of us stuck in unhealthy patterns, especially when it comes to how we celebrate, unwind, and seek pleasure. There's a subtle but pervasive expectation many of us carry that life should feel good all the time, and when it doesn’t, we look for ways to escape those uncomfortable feelings. But what if our sense of entitlement to constant fun and comfort is holding us back from deeper fulfilment? Join me as I explore the hidden costs of chasing temporary highs, whether it's through alcohol or other quick fixes, and challenge the belief that we should always feel great. I’ll share insights that will change the way you think about fun, success, and your own well-being. If you're ready to break free from the cycle of needing quick fixes and reclaim control over your relationship with alcohol, I’d love to help you on that journey. videoGerd Anselmann Pfalz Dornfelder 2023 Review | Unique, Confusing, and Worth a Sip
The Wine Guys return to Germany for their first German red on the show, the 2023 Gerd Anselmann Pfalz Dornfelder. What starts with jammy blackberries, blueberries, and plum on the nose quickly turns into one of the most unusual tasting experiences they have had all season. Freshness, juiciness, bitterness, and earth all fight for attention in a wine that feels like two different bottles in one sip. The crew dives into Dornfelder’s backstory too. Bred in 1955, this crossing has already climbed to become Germany’s second most planted red grape. They talk through the two styles you’re most likely to run into and where this Pfalz bottle falls. The chat drifts into serving temp, what foods it begs for like lamb or a charcuterie board, and how the wine’s unexpected weight and flavor keep throwing them curveballs To close things out, the Wine Vibes game makes another appearance, distilling Dornfelder into pure vibes instead of tasting notes. Weird, surprising, but enjoyable, this wine spar
