Wine Terms You Pretend to Know (But Don’t): A 3-Part Series
Let’s be honest—wine terminology can be confusing. In fact, some wine vocabulary is so esoteric and contensious that even connoisseurs argue about its meaning. Whether you’re new to wine or just faking your way through tastings, you’re not alone. In this 3-part wine education video series, I (Jacky Blisson, Master of Wine) break down the most misunderstood wine tasting terms and explain them in clear, no-nonsense language. If you’ve ever wondered what people really mean when they talk about grippy tannins, or a firm structure, or high volatile acidity, these short videos are for you. And, if you want to boost your wine language skills, check out my nerdy little guide to tannins descriptors and my explanation of why acidity in wine matters. Episode 1: The Classics of Wine Tasting Learn the basics: acidity, body, texture, tannins, and finish—what they are, how to recognize them, and why they matter. Velen Winery
John and Rebecca Otis of Velen Winery 2025 Zillah Winery of the Year When Rebecca went wine tasting with friends in Texas, she never expected to meet her future husband. John Otis was the owner and winemaker at CrossRoads Winery, and he fell in love at first sight when he saw Rebecca. The two married in 2011, and started building their dream home in a Texas suburb not far from the winery. But a trip to the Pacific Northwest resulted in new dreams. They fell in love with the Zillah area, and with the idea of making wine in Washington. The property they purchased had a house in need of renovation and enough land for a vineyard. They moved in 2015, and started planting 3 clones of Cabernet Sauvignon the following year. A winery and tasting room came a couple years later, as did more grape varieties. In 2019, Velen Winery opened its doors to the public. Velen Winery is located in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA area of the Yakima Valley.

Certified: A Biodynamic Deep Dive with Evrett Lunquist
The foundations for Biodynamic farming combine intentionality with the concept of your farm as a unique integrated organism. That includes the farmers. A guiding principle is to bring as few inputs as possible that are not produced on your farm. That’s our goal. In January, the Troon Vineyard team spent two days planning—only planning. The entire farm team focused on being better farmers and stewards of our land. Last Friday, the team took time to review progress. In our hands during all these planning sessions were our Biodynamic calendars. Our planning was focused on both making and applying the Biodynamic preparations. Informed by our calendars, we made our plans. I have practiced Biodynamic farming since 2018 and aspired to it for years before that. Few types of agriculture are more misunderstood, and, to a large extent, that's the fault of the Biodynamic community. Community is not the right word, as Biodynamic practitioners are a diverse group ranging from full-on spiritual anthr

podcast· 33:06· Ep 10Winiarska Majorka: rodzinna winnica Ca Sa Padrina w Sencelles
To pierwszy z trzech odcinów naszej majorkańskiej wyprawy: Ca Sa Padrina – dom babci, serce winiarskiej Majorki. Zajrzymy do piwnicy, gdzie powstają limitowane serie Can Tano, opowiemy o r

Frothy Fallwacker. Hmmm. Say that three times fast! Slightly resembling the taste of a Bushwacker, the Frothy Fallwacker is lighter than a Bushwacker and perfect as a before or after dinner treat. Add a small dollop of whipped cream if you wish. Heck, calories don’t count during the holidays, do they? You might also be … Continue reading "Frothy Fallwacker" The post Frothy Fallwacker appeared first on Rum Therapy .
videoWIN Insider Series with Maggie Zeman
In this WIN Insider episode, George Christie interviews Maggie Zeman, a seasoned PR and marketing professional who transitioned from Washington DC's State Department to Silicon Valley tech, before founding The Barn Group in Northern California's wine industry to then merge with a larger PR firm and expand her role nationally. Maggie shares insights on the wine sector's current challenges, emphasizing that the industry faces a marketing problem, not a product problem, requiring targeted communication strategies to engage younger consumers and adapt to evolving behaviors. The conversation covers the dramatically changed media landscape—from traditional wine writers to freelance-driven ecosystems, influencers, and digital creators—plus how AI and new platforms are reshaping media relations.
