207: Behind the Green Door - mit Maria Gorbatschova

Brynn Bradley: Oral History Interview
This interview is with Brynn Bradley. In this interview, Brynn speaks about her journey into the wine industry and how her experiences shape her career path. Next, she discusses her early life, explaining that she was born in the Bay Area but did not know much about wine when she was younger. She became interested in wine and viticulture later and decided to study wine business at Cal Poly. During college, she worked her first harvest in 2014, which helped her realize she wanted to shift toward winemaking rather than just the business side. Brynn explains some of her early work experiences. Working part-time at August Ridge Cellar where she learned a lot about the industry, as well as completing an internship with Robert Craig, and after finishing school in 2017, traveling to New Zealand to work a harvest before moving to Oregon because of the nature of the state. Finally, Brynn speaks about being accepted into a masters program. She shares that she wants to learn how to conduct resear

The Uniform Law Commission – Encouraging Consistent State by State Definitions, Protocols and Procedures
The Uniform Law Commission was founded in 1892 to formulate uniform and model laws for the States to consider adopting to ensure consistency in commerce, child custody rules, easement relocations, and accuracy of criminal records, among others, between the States. Over 300 model and uniform acts have been completed and presented to the various states as recommendations and best practices. As nationwide commerce grew so did the number of uniform and model acts. The ULC works by consensus among the members and observers.

podcast· 5:12Can Carlos Guess Angus' FAVOURITE wine of ALL TIME!?
Blind wine tasting is brutal. Even for a Master Sommelier. In this episode of Got Somme , Carlos blind tastes a vibrant, medium-ruby red wine and reads the clues as Pinot Noir : juicy cherry, raspberry, Christmas cake spice, fine tannins, elegant structure, and that “Old World on the palate, New World on the nose” tension. But then comes the reveal. It’s actually Gamay from Beechworth, Victoria , a 2024 release , and it happens to be one of Angus’ favourite wines of all time. This is the whole point of blind tasting: you follow the evidence, you make the call, and sometimes the wine still stitches you up. If you’re learning wine, love Pinot Noir, or want to understand how sommeliers think in real time, this one is for you. How to identify red wine blind using colour, aroma, tannin and acid Pinot Noir vs Gamay: the overlap that tricks even pros What “fine-grain tannins” and “perfume” really mean in practice Why some Gamay can present like high-level Pinot Hosted by Angus O’Loughlin and
podcast· 43:24· Ep 126It's Time For An American Apéritif Culture, Say Rue de Rêve Apéritifs Founders, Ep 124.
Two friends are crafting a European tradition with a California vibe. We’re stepping into that delicious moment before dinner, when the day loosens its tie. We take a breath and we ease into the evening. It’s the perfect time for an apéritif. Can America have an apéritif or aperitivo culture just as the French and Italians do? Rue de Rêve Apéritifs founders Jennifer Kimpe and Jeanne-Marie Hebert say, pourquoi pas, perché no or why not? You can sip the classic drinks - bitters like Aperol or Campari, bubbles and botanicals, Vermouth, et cetera - but there’s room for a new style of apéritifs, created by our guests today. Jennifer and Jeanne-Marie always say that apéritif isn’t something you drink, it’s something you do. After three years of research and recipe development, these friends are on their way to realizing their dream of a modern apéritif culture in the U.S.

What The Schnitt?
Yesterday I introduced you to our friend Mr Bílek, shoemaker and fundraiser for Czech national causes extraordinaire, yet he was far from alone in his endeavours, as I discovered in the German language daily "Znaimer Tagblatt" from January 1900. Znaim is the German name for the modern city of Znojmo in Moravia (minor aside, I always find typing "Moravia" rather than "Morava" weird) and if ethnic maps of the late 19th and early 20th century are accurate the city, and its attendant region, was predominantly German rather than Czech. The history of Bohemia and Moravia within the context of the wider Austro-Hungarian Empire is delightfully complex and multi-ethnic, and I don't want to get into that fun here. However, what is clear is that Czechs and Germans living in Bohemia and Moravia used each other to prod and cajole their fellow citizens into ever greater demonstrations of national fervour. According to this story, the fund raising undertaken by the likes of Mr Bílek at U Fleků had ra
