Irish Stout vs Imperial Stout: is there a difference?
Not all stouts are created equal. While they share their dark colour and roasted flavours, the difference between an Irish stout and an imperial stout can be striking - from lower-alcohol, more balanced styles to richer, fuller-bodied and more intense, warming expressions. In its basic form, a stout beer is a type of ale that is dark brown to black in colour, brewed with dark roasted malts or grains, giving aromas such as coffee, chocolate or burnt bread. Stouts sit close to porters in terms of their style. In this article, we explore the main stout styles, with a closer look at Irish stout and imperial stout, and how they compare. We’ll also touch on porter, a closely related style, to help place stout in its wider family. Types of stout explained Irish stout As the name implies, Irish stout is originally from Ireland and is famously brewed in Dublin, where carbonate-rich water is well suited to brewing with dark roasted malts and grains. Irish stout is brown to black in colour, clear

Going straight?
Last week, I reported on Irish wild beer specialist Wide Street producing a couple of tamer offerings. Today it's more of the same, except the brewery is Denver's Crooked Stave. Again, we begin with a hazy pale lager, although rather than "Kellerbier", the brewery has called it their Italian Pils . This is a light 4.9% ABV and smells ripely fruity, of soft peach and mango. The flavour is calmer, and rather more pils-typical, with a crisp pale malt base, adorned by citric hops which add a modest amount of bitterness but lots of lemon and grapefruit flavour. The unfiltered fuzz adds a softness of texture, meaning it's both crisp and smooth; thirst-quenching and filling, in a way I associate most with Bavarian Helles. Some may argue that the hopping makes it too American to be classed with any kind of European pilsner, but I think that's par for the course when the "Italian" card is played: "Italian pils" should never be confused with "pils from Italy". This is a highly enjoyable lager, a

video60 People. One Unforgettable Bordeaux Dinner 🍷🇫🇷
One of the most unforgettable moments from our Bordeaux River Cruise took place at Château Biac, where 60 members of our Vino VIP community gathered for a private evening filled with incredible wine, food, and hospitality. 🍷🇫🇷 The night began with a walk through the estate and cellar, followed by an incredible cocktail hour featuring caviar, foie gras, jambon carved off the bone, tartare, and a few Lebanese touches from the Asseily family. Then came the long table. Lamb shoulder, ratatouille, cheeses, homemade Lebanese ice cream from Youmna, and wines paired throughout the evening including B de Biac, Château Biac, and their Sauternes-style Secret de Biac poured from an Imperial bottle. At one point, we surprised our travel agent Denise with an Imperial bottle of 2009 Château Biac, her anniversary vintage… and there were definitely some tears. The day was so special, and honestly, I got emotional too. Seeing this community we’ve built through V is for Vino gathered around one table

12x12 Review: Samuel Adams Beers of Summer Variety Pack
Beer Included: Summer Ale, Porch Rocker, American Light, Blueberry Lager Purchased: 31 May 2025 Price: $17.99 minus $5 rebate Initial Impressions I didn’t want to review two Samuel Adams 12-packs in a row but I won’t lie, scanning a QR code to receive a $5 rebate swayed me. I was probably going to pick this one up at some point; the rebate nudged me to do it now. Summer Ale was one of my gateway craft beers. I was so disappointed when Boston Beer Co changed the recipe, I brewed an OG Sam Summer Clone which was one of the best beers I have brewed to date. Over time I softened on the new recipe. A couple years back at a Malteurop Happy Hour at the Craft Brewers Conference, I put away quite a few Sam Summer. On Opening Day at Fenway this year, I didn’t care for this year’s version. Then a couple weeks later Summer Ale won a medal at the World Beer Cup. What do I know? Porch Rocker has never been my favorite shandy. I find it to be quite sweet. On the other hand I know a lot of people who

podcast· 17:06216. Feeling Dread
Today we’re talking about dread. That heavy, uncomfortable feeling that shows up when you’re trying to drink less, do something differently, or step out of an old habit. In this episode, I explain why dread doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong, and why waiting to feel confident or calm first is often the very thing keeping you stuck. You’ll learn how to befriend emotions like dread and still take action, whether that’s going to a social event, handling pressure to drink, or getting through an evening without defaulting to wine. This is about building authority over your emotional world, trusting yourself again, and realising you don’t need a different feeling to create a different result. Book a free discovery call and let’s explore what reward could look like without the wine: https://tidycal.com/90dayslater/consult
