Winds of change are blowing in Bordeaux, modern wine styles
Bordeaux is the stronghold of structured, age-worthy red wine. Without intending to stop producing this type of wine that many chateaux do so well, Bordeaux today realises that some changes are needed. Bordeaux has lost 20% of its vineyard area since 2021, and plans are to tear up more of it. For some producers, it […] Continue reading: Winds of change are blowing in Bordeaux, modern wine styles The post Winds of change are blowing in Bordeaux, modern wine styles was originally published on BKWine Magazine and written by Britt Karlsson . Parma Food Valley: Where Italy’s culinary soul comes to life
From Parmigiano Reggiano and prosciutto to Lambrusco and balsamic vinegar, a four-day journey through Emilia-Romagna reveals why this corner of Italy remains one of the world’s great gastronomic destinations There are places you visit for the sights, and then there are places you visit for the flavours. Italy’s Parma Food Valley—set within the fertile heart of Emilia-Romagna—belongs firmly in the latter category. Over the four days that I spent weaving through the elegant streets of Parma, the culinary powerhouse of Modena, and the quieter charm of Colorno and other nearby towns, one thing became abundantly clear: here, food is not simply consumed—it is lived. Read Also: Exploring Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast: wine, food, and culture That idea feels especially relevant now. Italian cuisine has recently been recognized by UNESCO as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage. It’s an acknowledgment not just of recipes, but of rituals, traditions, and a deeply rooted connection between

videoTasting Opening Price Brunello di Montalcino
Today's video is a tasting of two Brunello di Montalcinos priced at around $20 per bottle. Both are exclusive labels, one to Costco, the other to Trader Joe's. Brunello at this price is virtually unheard of, but here we are with two options. Both are from the highly acclaimed 2020 vintage. Each wine will be tasted twice as part of a single-blind tasting, meaning I know which wines are in the tasting, but not the order poured. First, I'll taste the wines soon after they are opened. Then I'll retaste both after a few hours of aeration. One of the wines is the 2020 Kirkland Signature Brunello di Montalcino, found at Costco. It's a seasonal wine that tends to sell out quickly. It'll be in the lay-down wooden wine bins. The price is up a bit from the last vintage. I picked it up for $21.79 The other wine is the 2020 Poggio Lontano Brunello di Montalcino, sold only at Trader Joe's; it's a limited-release wine, available seasonally. I've not tried this one from previous vintages. The pric

Forget the Beach House. This Summer, Drink Long Island at Portrait Bar
Long Island, But Make It a Cocktail — Portrait Bar’s New Summer Menu HAS ArriveD If you're headed to New York this summer, make time for a detour that doesn't require a MetroCard or a rental car. Hidden inside the five-star Fifth Avenue Hotel—luxury without the attitude, all polished brass and velvet hush—is The Portrait Bar . It’s got the kind of character you’d expect from a library where the books drink Negronis. And for a limited time, it’s offering a summer menu inspired by that most unglamorous but deeply nostalgic New York tradition: the Long Island Rail Road. Yes, that LIRR. Turns out, the clackety old line that shuttles beach-bound city dwellers to Montauk, Oyster Bay, and beyond is now the muse behind one of the most imaginative cocktail menus in Manhattan. Bar Director Darryl Chan—equal parts alchemist and local historian—has crafted five drinks that nod to the train lines and the destinations at the end of them. They’re playful, potent, and made with ingredients sourced fro
