RNV 106: Tom Simoneau | Simoneau Wines + The Wine Guy
During this episode of ROCK’nVINO, hosts Coco and Michelle talk with The Wine Guy, Tom Simoneau! KSRO listeners are quite familiar with Tom’s voice, since he started his radio career as The Wine Guy on KSRO back in the 90s. Tom is uniquely suited for our show, since he started out as a musician and ended up a winemaker! Tom learned to play guitar with his college friends and decided to make a go of it as a band in Georgia. Their first band was named C&W Mow Company, since their landlord told them they needed to pay rent somehow and mowing lawns was a good way to earn some dough! Influenced by bands like the Allman Brothers and Little Feat, Tom and his bandmates started to play bigger shows and tour across the country. The music scene in San Francisco drew them west, and they decided they were going to head to California to get signed and become professional musicians. Luck wasn’t in the cards, but after a holiday trip home, Tom started to date a beautiful girl he knew from home in Main

podcast· 51:59· S1E38Episode 38 - Last Thing He Told Me and a Cool-Climate Pinot
Returning to her houseboat, Hannah Hill is met by a high school student she’s never seen who hands her a letter simply reading ‘Protect Her.’ Her husband, Owen, then disappears leaving his daughter Bailey in her care. Why did he run away? Why is a US Marshall poking around? Did Owen commit corporate crimes? Bailey and Hannah travel from Sausalito, CA to Austin, TX in search of answers. When a shadowy figure emerges with ties to dangerous people, Hannah and Bailey are stunned to find he is Bailey’s grandfather. You’ll have to pick up this page-turner to get your questions answered about these characters. Sausalito, where our story begins, is in the Central Valley region of California, which runs east to west (instead of north to south) or sideways in order to funnel the cool, moist, foggy air from the Pacific Ocean. We are sipping a wine from this area, a 2021 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara County. The first thing you will notice is the scent of black cherries, berry jam an

In praise of farmworkers (and all food workers)
As I reflect from the comfort of an air-conditioned office, the vineyard team is hedging for the third time this year. Usually, we only hedge twice, but the excess foliage that resulted from last year’s heavy rainfall is creating too much shade. The temperature will soon be 90 degrees Fahrenheit for the 27th time this season. The high humidity, now 97% according to the weather station, means that neither the vines nor those who tend them get much benefit from evaporative cooling.
