On Saturday August 10, the Wind to Wine festival is at the Gambonini Family Ranch in Petaluma. They start by tasting a sparkling wine that Kevin Bersofsky has made. Dan calls it “a very serious bubbly.” It’s a Brut Rosé and it is very dry. The flavors are fruity but not sweet. The Petaluma Gap was designated as an AVA in 2017. Kevin was using vineyards that were there before the AVA became official, like Springhill Ranch, Roberts Road, Gap’s Crown, Terra de Promissio, Keller Estates, Sunchase, Night Wing, … Montagne Russe Montagne Russe is the French, Italian and Spanish word for a Roller-Coaster. IWP Ep49 Samantha, Michael, John - Viano Vineyards - Today I’m talking with Samantha, Michael and John who make up the 5th generation of the Viano wine growing family. Viano vineyards has been producing estate wines since the 40’s from their dry farmed and head trained Zinfandel, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Petite Sirah and more vines. All grown in the rolling sandy hills above the winery in Martinez. The wines are well balanced, natively fermented and see mostly older oak or sometimes redwood. podcast· 1h 09m· Ep 142Blindflug 142: Luxusprobleme

The Wine Makers – Ross Cobb, Cobb Wines
Ross Cobb makes world-class Pinot Noir & Chardonnay from vineyards that are only 3-5 miles from the Pacific Ocean in Northern California. The extreme weather conditions and his numerous trips to Burgundy have definitely shaped his style, along with his previous positions at Williams Selyem and Hirsch. His parents purchased property at the coast in the late 80’s and Ross has since become an expert in cool climate farming. His other passions include skateboarding, collecting vinyl and playing guitar. Cobb wines are featured at the best restaurants in California and New York, we were lucky enough to try the new 21 vintages. RNV 120: Robert Young Estate Winery + SIP Healdsburg
During this episode of ROCKnVINO, hosts Coco and Michelle talk with Robert Young, Hospitality Manager at Robert Young Estate Winery . Robert is part of the 5th generation of family members working at this historic vineyard and winery. His ancestors moved to Sonoma County from New York during the gold rush and bought the ranch property in Alexander Valley, originally growing prunes. A suggestion came along in the 1960s to plant grapes, specifically Cabernet Sauvignon, a varietal now famous in the Alexander Valley AVA. The Young family also developed Chardonnay Clone 17, a disease resistant grape that worked well in hotter climates, cementing the legacy of Robert Young and his family in the California wine industry. In the late 90s, Robert's children established the Robert Young Estate Winery, and now use about 7-percent of the grapes they grow each year to make their wines. The other grapes are sold to about 20 or so wineries and appear as vineyard designates. Book a tasting experience

Minerality, an outdated update.
I first wrote about the nebulous wine descriptor Minerality in May of 2011. And so, I felt it was time for an update, thinking that much has been discovered, and new insights have clarified the subject for wine enthusiasts. But, alas, not so. Its definition and characteristics are still being variously described and utilized. The only thing that is quite clear, is that wine critics, critic-wannabes and wine journalists are routinely using Minerality as a key characteristic to describe virtually any type of wine, and how it transcends or otherwise differentiates it from the typical, uninspiring components of acidity, tannins, sugar, and alcohol. With that in mind, here is an outdated update, as current as it gets: When I first attended wine tasting classes, it was not unusual to hear the phrase gout de terroir (goo de tare-wahr — taste of the soil ) ascribed to the wines that we were evalu, ating. The concept seemed esoteric and elusi
