Kanekou Okinawa Whisky
Kanekou Okinawa is a Japanese whisky from Shinzato distillery , founded in 1846. Most of its history is in the production of Awamori, the traditional rice drink (black koji) from the region. They are now applying their knowledge of slow fermentation and distilling in a tropical climate to the production of whisky. Not much information is available. It is said that it is a blend of three types of whisky : malt and wheat whisky (at least 3 years of age) and rice whisky (Ryukyu, aged in sherry casks for at least 8 years). Kanekou Okinawa Whisky (43%, OB +/- 2025) Nose: quite soft. There's a bready note up front, along with yellow apple. Perhaps also a hint of (slightly overdue) pineapple I'm afraid a musty type of (sherry?) cask is taking the lead, along with toffee and a light mouldy note. Also hints of candied ginger and caramelized almond. Mouth: not so good. There's a raw alcoholic / feinty note, a metallic kind of sweetness, some pears and just a hint of very, very young Scotti

Zatti - “Sandrjolè” Metodo Classico Groppello Dosaggio Zero

Jericho Bracken Vineyard Grenache 2024
I reckon this Bracken Vineyard Grenache would shine beside food. Irrespective, it's once again a very good expression of the variety from the McLaren Vale sub-region of Blewitt Springs. Made with 25% whole bunches and seeing 12 months seasoned French oak, it opens with dark cherries, strawberries and baked blueberries. Shards of dark chocolate and ripples of raspberry jam give off those classic old-school Wagon Wheel vibes. Puffs of earthiness and undergrowth are parcelled up by an array of woodsy and barbecue meat rub spices that linger. Soft, silty tannins have the last word. Great stuff. 93/100 Region: McLaren Vale RRP: $42 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and X

Corliss
Great photo of the Corliss family. One of the great Washington wineries, Corliss is an ultra-premium producer of red wines founded in 1999 by Michael and Lori Corliss. Over the years Mike Corliss has bought vineyard land throughout the state, including more holdings on Red Mountain. Corliss has been met with some serious critical acclaim since their first release in 2008. It has been such a pleasure seeing how well these beautiful wines age. Corliss is also well-known for performing exceptionally well with tough vintages. I have had some of their older wines from my cellar and they have some massive cellaring potential. Corliss did a great job in 2019 which was not the easiest year for Bordeaux varietals. They made some beautiful 2020 wines from this tough vintage. The wines have less oak impact over time. I adore the 2021 Corliss Cabernet Sauvignon (OB, 99) which has incredible flavor density and is a stunning edition of this wine that is a must-buy for any collector of top Washington

My Meeting with Landon Winery
by Andrew ChalkAt the Drink North Texas Wine Festival I had an experience unlike any other. I wandered up to the Landon Winery booth and noticed they had a Chardonnay. I asked the sullen-looking guy behind the counter (he did not sound at all happy. He appeared to be having a bad day and intent on taking it out on people who visited the Landon booth) where the grapes came from. “Washington State”, he said.“What is it doing at a Texas wine show?” I asked. I was incredulous, you don’t have a “Drin
