June 2026: Instead of a newsletter… Wheat beer
Andreas Krennmair has a new book out focusing on ‘Bavarian white beer’, AKA Hefeweizen, AKA wheat beer. And it’s reminded us to check in with this intriguing style. Out and about in Bristol’s pubs yesterday one thing that struck us was that German wheat beer is a style that’s become quite mainstream in the UK […] June 2026: Instead of a newsletter… Wheat beer originally posted at Boak & Bailey's Beer Blog

April 2026: Instead of a newsletter… Proper Job
We don’t have a newsletter anymore – we do this instead, in the same format, with a bit of something new, some updates, and a recap of what we’ve posted in the past month. We reconnected with St Austell Proper Job last night, remembered how much we love it, and realised that we’ve been taking […] April 2026: Instead of a newsletter… Proper Job originally posted at Boak & Bailey's Beer Blog

Please The Palate April 2026 Newsletter
I can’t believe another year has passed, but I’m ready to turn the page. 2025 was a challenging year on many levels. With continued shifts in the wine industry, I felt it in my work: events slowed, writing opportunities disappeared, and the landscape changed in real time. But I didn’t let that stop me, and won't. Enjoy the Please The Palate January 2026 Newsletter.

The Wine Bars in Florence I Recommend to Friends
There have been several articles in the media lately listing wine bars to visit in Florence, including in La Repubblica and Wine Enthusiast. This is interesting because it shows how the wine bar scene has grown a lot in the last few years. Up until about 10 years ago, there were a few good wine ... A New Year, Wine on Our Own Terms: Italian Wine, Culture, and the Future of Drinking
Last year, I started the Substack publication All That Wine together with Susannah Gold to dive deeper into the beautiful world of wine. We did a couple of livestreams with producers last year; the articles about them will be published soon. I just published the first newsletter article of the year over on All That ... Please The Palate October 2025 Newsletter
Summer is here and with it comes the 14th anniversary of Please The Palate. I am proud to be celebrating another year of business, especially amidst the challenges the wine industry is facing. And we are all feeling it. In the more than two decades that I have worked in the wine industry, I have seen challenges and changes, but nothing has been like this. It seems like the wine industry is being hit on every side, all at once. Costs are up, consumption is down. There is the threat of tariffs and an anti-alcohol sentiment. I have felt these challenges over the past two years but continue to try to push through with an optimistic attitude.
