In part one, I look at: • Terrace viticulture and Germany’s steep vineyard sites • Why terraces developed historically and how they work • The benefits and challenges of steep-slope vineyards today • Climate change and its impact on traditional German sites • Vine breeding, clonal selection and key German research institutes • Planting density, training systems and trellising choices • Old vines (Alte Reben) and why they matter in modern German wine This is part one of a three-part series on grape growing in Germany. Part one is free to watch. Parts two and three are available exclusively inside the Wine with Jimmy Club. A small but mighty round-up and the launch of my limited-edition wine club. Every year, I get to November and lose it just a little bit. It feels like everything goes a tiny bit wrong – I accidentally post Carousels with typos, I wake up feeling a little off, my stomach can’t cope with the […]

videoAustralian Nebbiolo Can't Beat Italian... Right?
Six Nebbiolos. Three from Australia. Three from Italy. All tasted blind. We wanted to see if Australian Nebbiolo could genuinely stand up to its Italian counterparts — including Barbaresco and wines from some of Piedmont's most respected producers. Prices ranged from $28 to $115. The results surprised us. Featuring wines from Luke Lambert, Denton, Moretti Langhe, and more — plus a deep dive into what actually separates Australian Nebbiolo from Italian: tannin structure, primary fruit, that earthy "wardrobe to Narnia" character, and whether ripeness is a strength or a crutch. If you love Nebbiolo (or you think you hate it), this one's for you. #nebbiolo #winetasting #blindtasting #australianwine #italianwine #barbaresco #barolo #piedmont #winecomparison #nebbiololover Learn More About Us: https://bottleshock.tv/ We're Thirsty! Another Year in the Vat
By Doug Fabbioli The juice has been pressed from the fruit, fermentation is complete and now the wine is resting in vats or barrels. The skins and seeds from the grapes are in the compost pile transforming into the black gold that will be returned to the field. The leaves are off the vines and have blown into the surrounding fields. The crew has been winterizing equipment, cleaning up the landscape and generally catching up on some of the jobs that were not as critical to address during the growing season. We have plenty of work ahead of us and spring will be here before we know it, but naturally the end of the year is a fitting time for reflection. There seems to be some significant interest in buying and selling local wineries lately. Maybe it’s the age of the industry, or the businesses, or the owners, but I certainly see some shifts coming soon. This business is not for the faint of heart. High capital investment, slow returns and agriculture in general adds up to challenges that m

After a career in global consulting and raising a family, Sally Evans decided to pursue a dream of owning a winery. She took WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust) wine courses and traveled to Bordeaux to explore the city and its appellations and discovered Fronsac (on the right bank, Episode 593 is on Fronsac!), which captured her heart. Photo: Sally Evans. Courtesy of Ch George7 She went for it – she bought a small plot in 2015 and decided to build a new château from scratch. She found the right plot, and the right people and that château today is the award-winning Château George7 . She makes two other reds besides her main wine and a white Bordeaux. podcast· 57:04· Ep 516Exploring the World of Wine Competitions and Armenian Winemaking with Quentin Havaux
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is coming to Yerevan, Armenia. It is a huge feather in the cap of the Armenian wine trade and the story of how and why it landed there is inspiring. Quentin Havaux is the 3rd generation of the fames tasting and judging group and the ascent to international recognition of the CMB is quite organic and humble. The wine trade is unforgiving and requires tenancity and patience. Quentin describes the history of CMB with pure enthusiasm and passion. And the relentless ambition to tell the stories of wine is inspiring. Quentin Havaux believes wine isn't about intimidating jargon or arbitrary numbers—it's about the stories, the traditions, and the sheer enjoyment found in every glass. In this sparkling episode, listeners are invited to sip on the wisdom of the CEO of Vinopress, the driving force behind the influential Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. From family roots in the Belgian printing trade to orchestrating one of the world's most respected wine competitio
videoThe A-Z of Wine: 'Z' is for 'Zinfandel'
We head to California to taste some serious Old Vine Zinfandel, on its own native roots (rather than being grafted to a phylloxera-resistant plant's roots) courtesy of its 40-foot deep roots going down into sand! The bugs hate this! We are at Cline Family vineyards, one of the most legendary names in Californian winemaking, based in Sonoma, but here the vineyards are just east of Oakland in Contra Costa county.
