Merlot On My Mind
Being obsessed over a grape lately? I have. Not even sure why, but I have. Merlot had been on my mind. Why Merlot? Why now? I don’t know. I’m sure something triggered it, but I really have no clue as to what and why. Merlot’s name might not be around since the 13th century as […]

Costco to Discontinue Co-Branded Kirkland Beers, Ending Partnership With Deschutes
After less than two years, Costco and Deschutes Brewery plan to discontinue their co-branded line of Kirkland Signature beers. Deschutes chief executive officer Peter Skrbek announced the change in a notice to distributors sent on July 1, Craft Business Daily reports. Production is set to be scaled back as soon as this month. The collaboration includes Kirkland Signature Helles Lager and Kirkland Signature Vintage Ale, which are expected to be gone from most Costco warehouse’s shelves by September or October. videoThe Truth About Celebrity Wine
Six bottles. Six famous faces on the label. Zero clues in the glass. We stripped the branding off a lineup of wines made, backed or licensed by household-name celebrities and tasted the lot blind, because the whole point of a celebrity wine is the name — and we took the name away. The spread is wild: two of the six sit in the ordinary $21.99–$24.99 bracket you'd grab without thinking, while another costs more than most people spend on wine in a year. There's sparkling, there's rosé, there's red, and there's one bottle with an augmented-reality label that genuinely stops the tasting dead. The question on the table the whole way through: which of these are real wines from people who actually care, and which are a logo slapped on a tank sample? Guess along before the reveal. Pick which pours you think came from a passion project and which came from a marketing meeting, then see how badly the panel gets it wrong. One tasting note involves a mistaken identity so specific it deserves its o

Whiskey Review: Bardstown Bourbon Company Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Introduction Today we’re revisiting Bardstown Bourbon Company Bottled in Bond Bourbon , a bottle that longtime listeners of Film & Whiskey may recognize from a previous review. Originally released as part of Bardstown’s Origin Series , the whiskey has since been rebranded with new labels, fonts, and packaging , now standing on its own as the company’s baseline Bottled in Bond offering. For those unfamiliar, Bottled in Bond means the bourbon must follow strict regulations: it must be distilled in a single season, aged at least four years, bottled at 100 proof , and produced by a single distillery under government supervision. In this case, Bardstown Bourbon Company distilled and produced the whiskey themselves. This expression is a six-year bourbon with a mash bill of 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley , making it a wheated Bottled in Bond bourbon . The MSRP sits around $49.99 , putting it right in the increasingly competitive $50 bourbon range. Before divi

Whisky Review: Green River Wheated Full Proof Bourbon
Introduction We’ve tried just about everything Green River has put out over the past couple of years, and more often than not, we’ve walked away impressed. With Aaron Harris steering the ship and Lofted Spirits continuing to expand its footprint alongside Bardstown Bourbon Company, Green River has quietly built one of the more reliable portfolios in American whiskey. Now they’re expanding their Full Proof lineup with Green River Wheated Full Proof Bourbon , following the wheated expression’s win for Best Overall Whiskey at the New York Spirits Competition. That’s a bold move, and a high bar to clear. This batch comes in at 109.3 proof (54.65% ABV) , with a mash bill of 70% corn, 21% wheat, and 9% malted barley , aged between five and seven years , and priced at $49.99 MSRP . On paper, that’s a compelling value in today’s bourbon market. But how does it actually drink? This review is taken from our episode " One Battle After Another (2025) / Gre

videoEp. 2808 From Sunken Roman Cities to Piedirosso: Exploring Campi Flegrei Through Wine with Gilda ...
Welcome to episode 2808 of the Italian Wine Podcast and episode 264 of Wine, Food & Travel with Marc Millon. In this episode, Marc is in conversation with Gilda Martusciello of Salvatore Martusciello winery to explore Campi Flegrei, from sunken Roman cities to Piedirosso. They discuss what it means to make wine on an active volcano, how the volcanic and yellow tuff soils shape the wines, and how Campi Flegrei differs from Vesuvius. Gilda also shares how her husband's family helped map the area's key terroirs and grapes and were the first to petition for DOC status in Campania. The conversation ends with food and wine pairings, from Falanghina and Piedirosso with local seafood to Asprinio with mozzarella. More about the guest: Gilda Guida Martusciello discovered her love for wine through her encounter with Salvatore Martusciello and his family, pioneers since the 1990s in reviving Campania's native grape varieties. Their commitment and perseverance promoted the very creati

13th Annual BourbonGuy.com Brackets: The Championships
Welcome back, folks! We are now at the end of the 2026 contest. Eight whiskeys entered the arena. Four have fallen by the wayside. There have been some delicious treats, with not a single stinker in the bunch. Let’s see how it all ends and if we’ve learned anything along the way. First, we have the Round Two matchups. Division 2: Crooked Meteor (Maker’s 46) vs. Wobbly Parachute (Benchmark Single Barrel) Pre-Reveal Thoughts: On the mouth Wobbly Parachute is giving me a little more cherry and baking spice. Crooked Meteor also gives some fruit and baking spice, but tosses a little bubblegum in there too. Crooked Meteor has a softer mouthfeel, being almost velvety by comparison. Wobbly Parachute is sweeter on the nose showing more toffee-This is so close that I'm going to hazard a guess that the winner here goes on to take the whole thing. I like Crooked Meteor's nose better. Wobbly Parachute has a nicer finish. At the end of the day though the mouthfeel of Crooked Meteor gives this just t
