videoThe ultimate open wine cheat sheet
If you still believe the "3 to 5 day" rule for open wine, you are ruining your best bottles. 🛑🍷 Not all wine degrades at the same speed. Here is the actual timeline: 🍾 Sparkling: Same day (2 to 3 days max with a proper stopper). 🥂 White & Rosé: Best the same day (High-acid whites might hold 24-48 hours). 🍷 Red Wine: 24 hours before obvious degradation begins. 🍯 Sweet/Dessert: Several weeks. 🥃 Fortified (Port/Sherry): Weeks to even months. The absolute best way to make wine last? Finish the bottle. Be honest: Which of these rules are you currently breaking right now? Confess in the comments. 👇 Hit the link in our bio to restock your cellar with bottles you actually want to finish. #winehacks #winetips #sommelier #winescience #wineeducation #bighammerwines

Wild Game The Duke Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Quite the pocket dynamo, these Wild Game The Duke Cabernets walk with a gracious humility, and you can't help but lean in that little bit closer. And do I need to mention value? This was $40 over a decade ago, and yet the quality continues to elevate, but the price does not. Winning! Already with six years young, this is excellent buying for the asking price. Coonawarra Cabernet is superb when in the zone and this is a perfect example. I suspect it would be twice the price (at least) from a more 'trendy' region... Composed, silky and lacy, dried thyme, sage, green olives, salt bush and dried petals diffuse in unison, delivering a wine of moreishness and immense satisfaction. Dark chocolate and dried mint leaves flank a core of blackberries and blackcurrants. It's a wine that reveals itself slowly yet carries a proud confidence without being exuberant. An excellent Cabernet, it's well worth getting on your radar. 95/100 Region: Coonawarra RRP: $40 Source: Sample Winer

Travellers Shiraz Viognier 2023
Wonderfully medium-bodied, this Travellers Shiraz Viognier is a wine of fluency, lacy shape and severe approachability. Sourced from Queensland's Granite Belt region, the fruit was grown at Ballandean Estate. The Shiraz was partway through fermentation before Viognier (4%) was added to complete the co-fermentation. It saw 80/20 seasoned French and American barrels (3-4 years old) for six months. Pretty scents of red petals, red cherry fruit, red apple skin, apricot kernel and dried sage bring lift, energy and plenty of joy. These flow seamlessly to the palate where the expected Granite Belt minerality raises its hand along with fine sheets of black pepper. Fine brick dust tannins coat the palate on close with a faint lick of meatiness and balsamic upping the moreish factor. A great drink for the asking price, this is an enthusiastic recommendation from me. 92/100 Region: Granite Belt RRP: $29 Source: Sample Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram
