Famille Quiot, Southern France
Accompanying this article is a small portfolio tasting of the wines from Famille Quiot, a family that lays claim to a winemaking history since the mid-18th century. I say ‘small’ as the parent company seems to have more than a dozen individual wineries and brands residing under it. The key item uniting all of them however is that they’re firmly Southern Rhône in origin. For example, there are at least six different Provençal-style rosés, of which I tasted half of them and yes, there is indeed a difference between them […] For full access, please log in or purchase a subscription .

Dallas Dhu, Benromach, Glenlochy (G&M CC Heritage)
Gordon & MacPhail is launching the Connoisseurs Choice Heritage Collection , a new way of celebrating George Urquhart. He launched the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968, providing enthusiasts the opportunity to try whisky from distilleries that were rarely available as single malts. In a way the new Heritage series has a similar approach: when was the last time you tried a new Dallas Dhu or Glenlochy? For this occasion G&M is reviving the old map label which adorned the series between 1988 and 1996. For more information on the evolution of the series, check this WhiskyAuctioneer article. It's remarkable that most of the whiskies on offer today were already bottled as far back as 2021. I assume they are leftovers / reworks of previous bottlings, or simply casks with a very small yield that didn't have a clear destination at that time. Only 100 sets will be available, brought together in a nice wooden case. You can now register your interest to buy volume 1 - other volumes will follow late

Wenzel Distillery Sherry Barrel Finished Bourbon, Batch 2
I’d like to thank Wenzel Distillery and their PR team for providing this sample with no strings attached. As I am an old man, I know a lot of old songs. And as much as it pains me to realize this, the 1980s were 40 years ago. Which is an objectively long time. There was an old song by a band called Cinderella, that was popular when I was a young lad titled Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone). And we are living that in the BourbonGuy household this week. We recently got new neighbors on one side of our house. We live in a tightly packed neighborhood, but what made it lovely were all the trees in everyone’s yards. It made it easy to pretend that our houses were further apart than they really were. Well, this week, the new neighbors to the south took down their three extremely large maples. Which sucked for us since they provided shade and, more importantly, privacy from the neighbors beyond them. It was sad and has us trying to figure out how to replace the effect. But it does provi

There’s a reason those rums and not the ones from Thailand were there, and that backstory is so interesting (and lengthy) I have elected to include it below this review, so let’s [Click here for the full review...]

I Got Tired Of Pretending Everything Was Fine
One of the things that drove me to quit drinking was all the pretending I had to do. You know – the acting. Acting as if I didn’t have a hangover. Acting as if I didn’t mind whether we opened another bottle or not. Acting as if I could just take it or leave it.
