Beer In Ads #5260: It’s Beer Weather
Two years ago I decided to concentrate on Bock ads for awhile. Bock, of course, may have originated in Germany, in the town of Einbeck. Because many 19th century American breweries were founded by German immigrants, they offered a bock at certain times of the year, be it Spring, Easter, Lent, Christmas, or what have […]

Champs-Elysees + L’Emitage Saint Valbert.
Champs-Élysées + L’Emitage Saint Valbert. Despite my optimism that the Chartreuse Crisis would gradually resolve itself (after the hoarders had hoarded enough) it regrettably appears to have endured and become permanent. Despite living in one of the alleged “core markets” … Continue reading →
videoThe Angélus Family's Secret Bordeaux Bargain!
Château La Fleur de Boüard 2018 Link to Purchase: https://www.winex.com/chateau-la-fleur-de-bouard-2018.html Join our Daily Email Offer List: https://cdn.forms-content.sg-form.com/f3da488a-d10b-11ee-94a3-62718bdc6118 Some wineries have a flagship wine. Others have a passion project. For Hubert de Boüard, the legendary co-owner and winemaker behind Château Angélus, Château La Fleur de Boüard became both. After helping elevate Angélus into one of the most celebrated estates in Saint-Émilion, de Boüard saw something special just across the border in Lalande-de-Pomerol and decided to put his name, reputation, and energy behind it. It was a bet that paid off. For decades now, La Fleur de Boüard has been one of the Right Bank's most consistent overachievers, producing wines that routinely outperform their appellation and compete with bottles costing significantly more. The terroir is a big part of the story. Located just a short distance from Pomerol, the estate benefits from many o

Hiatus Beers Non Alcoholic Pacific Ale
What's the best non-alcoholic beer I have tasted? This Hiatus Pacific Ale is it. Woah! Like a mango parfait, this is a summertime sunset in a can. Made with Veloria, Vienna and Munich malt and Galaxy hops, the front label says it's a full-flavoured non-alcoholic beer and it's spot on. Drop this in a lineup of similar style beers and you'd struggle to tell the difference. Jules Ryan is at the helm. With some serious brewing knowledge and experience after stints at Stone & Wood, Balter and Little Creatures, he saw a hole in the market that he has filled admirably with his Hiatus beers. Brewed as normal, it then undergoes the process of removing the alcohol. A starburst of tropical fruit greets you with passionfruit, a dash of pineapple, guava, freeze-dried papaya and this insanely delicious creamy meringue thing that rides on their coattails. Clean, crisp and incredibly refreshing, I wish I had more than one can on hand. The low and non-alcohol beer scene is miles ahead

Curly Flat Williams Crossing Pinot Noir 2025
The Curly Flat Williams Crossing is back! After a brief stint MIA, consulting winemaker Steve Flamsteed ensured the label was back on the front line. Dark cherries and raspberries skip from the glass with an entourage of earthiness, charred oak, pine needles, cured meats, twigs and dried leaves in hot pursuit. The bones of a very good Pinot Noir are here, and it starts with such promise, but I found the palate to be clipped and it didn't flow through as much as hoped. Given the chance to shine over a couple of days, the drive and length I was hoping for just weren't there. Have a glass with food and you may not even know. 91/100 Region: Macedon Ranges RRP: $38 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and X

Geoff Merrill G&W Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Released with eight years of ageing already done for you, this Geoff Merrill Cabernet quietly improved over the few days it was open. A blend of Coonawarra and McLaren Vale fruit, like its Jacko's Shiraz sibling, it's rich, ripe and bold. Loaded with black fruits, plum pudding and dark chocolate, it's puckering and saps all moisture from the mouth. Cigar box, dried mint and eucalypt nuances add interest with powdery tannins draped across a lengthy and sustained finish. Top value for $30, if you like 'em big with a dash of charisma, shuffle over this way. 92/100 Region: Coonawarra & McLaren Vale RRP: $30 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and X

Geoff Merrill Jacko's Shiraz 2018
Eight years young, this is only the early days for this long lifer from Geoff Merrill. A bold and full-throttle delivery is clear from the first swirl. With scents of chocolatey oak, rich vanilla and mocha, it's ripe and dense. Blackberries and blackberry jubes sit at the core with a slightly sweet fruited edge plus lashings of licorice for interest. Unapologetically dense, there is some real heft and muscle here without being top-heavy. A trail of lingering spices and boisterous tannins has the last word. If you like them painted on thick, I reckon you have a new friend here. 92/100 Region: McLaren Vale RRP: $30 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and X

Whiskey Review: Old Overholt 4-Year Straight Rye Whiskey
For this week's episode of Film & Whiskey , we’re revisiting one of America’s oldest whiskey labels: Old Overholt. This rye whiskey, recently updated to include a four-year age statement and bottled at 86 proof, is an evolution of the brand we last tasted back in 2020. That previous version was 80 proof and blended, with the oldest whiskey being only three years old. Now owned by Suntory as part of the Jim Beam portfolio, Old Overholt has seen multiple refreshes, including bottled-in-bond and 114-proof versions. But today, we’re keeping it simple and reviewing the newly standardized 86-proof, 4-year straight rye. We picked up a one-liter bottle for about $21 in Kentucky, while a 750ml runs around $20 in Ohio. That makes this one of the most affordable straight ryes on the market. But how does it hold up in the glass? Nose Brad : I like the nose on this. It's all sorts of sweet mint, like a sweet mint-flavored gum. There's vanilla frosting on it. It's not overly co

Ep 174 Small Rooms, Big Souls – Featuring Diablo Paso | Indiginé Cellars
🍇 Where Wine Takes You – Episode Highlights 🍷 In this episode of Where Wine Takes You , Adam heads downtown, not just to taste wine, but to dig into the people helping shape the downtown Paso Robles tasting room experience. Recorded at SLO CAL Studios, this episode brings together two winemakers and brand owners with very different stories and a beautifully shared hustle: Ray Smith of Indigené Cellars and Enrique Torres of Diablo Paso. Enrique’s journey starts in Guerrero, Mexico, and continues in Paso Robles, where he arrived in 2001 and began working at the former Martin & Weyrich winery. He worked his way up from cellar rat to cellar master to assistant winemaker, eventually creating Diablo Paso, his personal love letter to Spanish varieties, old world style, hard work, and family balance. In this conversation, Enrique also drops some big news: Diablo Paso was named Winery of the Year at the Central Coast Wine Competition, with his El Nico taking Best Red, Double Gold, Best of Cla
