The Revival of Absinthe, From Ban to Global Renaissance
The Revival of Absinthe, From Ban to Global Renaissance Absinthe has one of the most fascinating stories in the history of spirits. Once celebrated as the drink of artists and intellectuals, it was later banned across much of the world, surrounded by myth, controversy, and misunderstanding. Today, absinthe has returned not as a dangerous substance, but as a refined, historically authentic spirit enjoyed globally. The revival of absinthe is not simply a comeback story. It is a journey shaped by science, regulation, and the dedication of individuals committed to restoring truth to one of the most misunderstood drinks in history. The Rise and Fall of Absinthe During the late nineteenth century, absinthe became one of the most popular spirits in Europe, particularly in France. It was associated with creativity and culture, favoured by artists, writers, and musicians. However, its popularity also led to controversy. A combination of social pressures, misinformation, and political influence

Symposium Standouts
By Greg Norton The Oregon Wine Board recognized eight exceptional wine professionals at the 2026 Oregon Wine Symposium on Feb. 3, celebrating individuals whose work has shaped the state’s wine industry. The annual awards, determined by peer nominations, spotlight contributions ranging from pioneering viticulture to community building across Oregon’s diverse wine regions. THERE FROM THE BEGINNING Bill Fuller, founder of Tualatin Estate Vineyard and consulting winemaker at Willamette Valley Vineyards, received the Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously for his extraordinary dedication spanning five decades. When Fuller moved from California to Oregon in 1973, he brought a vision for cool-climate Pinot Noir that would transform the state’s wine identity. “David Lett’s cuttings of Pinot Noir were put together on Bill Fuller’s back porch” before making their way to Oregon, recalled Jim Bernau, founder and president of Willamette Valley Vineyards an

🎧Ep 172 Tin City Then & Now: The Builder, The Makers, & The Future
🍇 WHERE WINE TAKES YOU – EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS 🍷 In this episode of Where Wine Takes You, Adam explores one of Paso Robles’ most unique success stories: Tin City. What began as a collection of industrial buildings on the edge of town has evolved into one of California wine country’s most creative destinations—home to winemakers, distillers, brewers, chefs, artists, and entrepreneurs who continue to shape Paso’s culture one idea at a time. First, Adam sits down with Patrick Brooks, founder of Tin City Distillery, and Vailia From, founder and winemaker of Desparada Wines. Together they reflect on the early days of Tin City, the evolution of the district, the people who helped build it, and the unique spirit of collaboration that continues to define the neighborhood today. Then the conversation shifts from the makers to the builder. Brooke English joins the show to share the story of her father, Mike English, whose vision, creativity, and willingness to invest in people helped create the f

Whisky Review: Crown Royal Canadian Whisky
We’re back with another whisky review, and this time we’re diving into one of the most widely recognized names in Canadian whisky: Crown Royal. It’s been a while since we’ve featured a Canadian whisky on the show, and if we're being honest, there’s a reason for that. Canadian whiskies often get a bad rap, especially among bourbon fans, largely because of their production methods (typically aged in used barrels instead of new charred oak, resulting in a lighter flavor profile). Still, when aged well, Canadian whiskies can hold their own. Crown Royal is known for being a highly blended product, reportedly made from up to 50 different whiskies.
