videoJameson Triple Triple Shootout: Marsala vs. Malaga vs. Chestnut Cask Review
Which Jameson Triple Triple reigns supreme? Today on Whisky Shared, I’m doing a full "shootout" between all three expressions in the Triple Triple range: the Malaga, Chestnut, and the brand new Marsala Cask Edition. While the original Triple Triple was a travel retail exclusive, the series has grown into a fascinating exploration of how different "third" casks influence that smooth Midleton DNA. I've reviewed the Chestnut version previously, but it’s time to see how it stacks up against its Sici

May 11: Baron Munchhausen’s Birthday
It's Baron Munchhausen's Birthday. Now, if you've read the books or watched the movie, you probably think Munchhausen is a fictional character, especially considering the highly improbable adventures he got up to. In fact, the real Baron Von Munchhausen, upon whose stories the fiction was based, was born on this day in 1720. He was a German cavalry officer who served in the Russian Imperial Army against the Turks. Upon retirement, he spent the next 30 years getting drunk at aristocrat dinner parties and reciting highly-exaggerated tales of his adventures in Russia. He became so well known for his drinking stories that writer Rudolf Erich Raspe gathered and further exaggerated his adventures in a series of books, which quickly went viral, partly because Raspe placed this encouragement on the front cover, "Humbly dedicated and recommended to Country Gentlemen; and, if they please, to be repeated as their own . . . in Watering Places, and other such polite Assemblies, around the bottle an

Burton McMahon Lusatia Park Chardonnay 2024
Woah! Big love right here. From Woori Yallock in the Yarra Valley perched 180 metres above, this Burton McMahon Lusatia Park Chardonnay is an exhibition of fabulous drive, balance and restrained power. The fruit was handpicked, whole bunch pressed and racked to barrel on 95% solids for wild yeast fermentation. Malo was not encouraged and it matured in French oak (30% new) for ten months. It opens with expressive aromas of caramel drops, Golden Rough, dedicated coconut and barbecued peach. There is a neat flow onto the palate with nougat and green apple adding detail. Possessing a delicate texture, there is a flash of lemon granita and yellow grapefruit on close. Oh, how I want more with each sip I take. Glorious. 94/100 Region: Yarra Valley RRP: $60 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and X

Iconic Kanonkop Paul Sauer 2023: A collector’s favourite
Kanonkop is regarded as South Africa’s equivalent of a First Growth. Their remarkable track record spans more than 50 years and, according to the Kanonkop team, the 2023 Paul Sauer is very similar to the lauded 1997 vintage. On tasting the 2023 release earlier this week, we were impressed by the classic, deeply nostalgic and […] The post Iconic Kanonkop Paul Sauer 2023: A collector’s favourite appeared first on Wine Cellar Plus .

Usher Tinkler Devil's Kitchen Pinot Noir 2025
Quite a different wine to the captivating and utterly delicious 2024 release , this Devil's Kitchen Pinot Noir from Usher Tinkler took me aback on opening. Joyous and juicy were the buzzwords with the 2024, but here I felt it was ripe and stewed on opening. I parked it and returned a day later, only to reveal it had taken quite a turn for the better. Perhaps there was some pent-up tension that needed release? Scents of rose hip and dried red petals skipped out with a plummy and dark cherry frame. Delightfully medium-bodied, some meaty things lurk within too - think pan juices and charcuterie. Finely textured with sandy-like tannins, recline by the fire pit and you're set. 90/100 Region: Hunter Valley RRP: $55 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and X

Why the RM vs NM Debate Isn't as Simple as Many Champagne Lovers Think
Normal 0 false false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE Why the RM vs NM Debate Isn't as Simple as Many Champagne Lovers Think Normal 0 false false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE I recently read an article, written with passion and knowledge, celebrating the rise of Grower Champagne. The author defined Grower Champagne as "the small-estate stuff (you know, the ones with an RM on the back label)" and contrasted these artisanal wines with the supposedly faceless world of the Négociant-Manipulants, identified by the letters NM. Like many champagne enthusiasts, I share the admiration for the growers behind the RM designation. Their stories are often fascinating, their connection to the land is tangible, and many produce outstanding wines. What concerns me, however, is the increasingly common assumption that RM automatically means authentic and high-quality, while NM implies something less worthy of attention. The reality is far more nuanced. In many cases, the distinction between RM and NM t

Supreme Court Rejects PIL Against Wine Tetra Packs in UP
A Bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant recently dismissed a PIL challenging the availability of wine in tetra packs in Uttar Pradesh, while allowing the petitioner to submit a representation before state authorities. The Bench, also comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and N. Kotiswar Singh Pancholi, was hearing a plea filed by Meenakshi Tiwari, who argued that the easy availability of liquor in tetra packs could adversely impact school students. The petitioner told the Court that her daughter lives in Ahmedabad where such packaging was not prevalent. “There is no problem there, but in UP children will carry these tetra packs to classes,” the Bench was told. The Court noted that the Uttar Pradesh excise policy did not expressly permit the sale of liquor in tetra packs. However, it observed that an administrative decision taken by the state government in February 2025 had allowed the sale of liquor in such small packages. “The said policy decision is on record

13th Annual BourbonGuy.com Brackets: Round 1b: 1792 vs. Yellowstone Select
And we’re back with the second of our Round 1 Competitions. These were tasted in an order only known to my wife as another bit of obfuscation to hide what was being tasted. So Round 1 of the 2026 BourbonGuy.com Brackets continues with Division 1’s Number 3 seed, Yellowstone Select taking on Number 2 seed, 1792 Bourbon. Yellowstone Select is the flagship product of the Limestone Branch Distillery in Lebanon, KY. This is the first time that a Yellowstone release has been in the contest. Prior to the brand, coming home to Limestone Branch, it certainly would have qualified. But then it got better and was priced out of range. And now because inflation is weird, it fits again. This bottle was purchased at Total Wine in Burnsville, MN for $29.99 for a 750 mL bottle or $2.00 per pour. Their opponent is a bourbon that I have consumed more than my fair share of as we used to get a lot of barrel pick versions of it down at my local corner liquor store. 1792 Bourbon is produced by Sazerac at thei

videoWould You Buy Whisky in an Aluminium Bottle?
Stirling Distillery is exploring a different approach to whisky packaging—looking at aluminium as a potential alternative to traditional glass bottles. The idea is not just about sustainability, but about accessibility, cost, and giving people a choice in how they buy and experience whisky. It’s still early, but the thinking is clear: challenge assumptions, test new ideas, and see what works. 🎧 Full conversation on SingleMalt TV — Full Replay

Half time scores
It's three months since the most recent JD Wetherspoon beer festival , and three months to go until the next one. I thought this would be an opportune moment to have a look at what's been new (to me) in the Dublin branches. Moorhouse is a regular at the chain and Pendle Witches Brew is a beer I've certainly heard of, but was surprised to find I'd never drank. "Strong ale" is something of a rare style, although this is down at the bottom end of it — 5.1% ABV — where it could equally be badged as a hefty bitter. The golden brown colour adds to that initial impression of twigginess, likewise its slightly soapy aroma. The flavour is altogether more light and breezy, presenting a fruity mix of currants and cherries, on a medium-dry malt base with a tannic bite. Think tea brack, but with some English hops adding an earthy bitterness to the finish. And while it may not be by-the-numbers strong, it presents a fullness and warmth which makes the description valid. It took me most of the p

Are Cigar Blends Finally Hitting Their Stride? A Look Inside Barrell Bourbon’s Latest Cigar Blend
The first cigar blend from Barrell Bourbon has officially landed, and I'm surely not the first person to wonder why it took them so long. Cigar blends soared onto the whiskey scene a few years ago but seem to have fallen off recently, suggesting their time in the limelight has passed. It seems I may be wrong in this thinking. The buzz around this release is real. Heck, I'm excited about it, and guess what? I don't even smoke cigars. You don't have to be a cigar enthusiast to enjoy a cigar...
