More Than Just a Cork: Engineering the Perfect Wine Closure to Shape a Wine’s Evolution
By Mukul Manku Long after the grapes have been harvested and the wine has been bottled, one small component continues to influence its future – the closure. While we often think of a cork as nothing more than a seal, however it actually regulates the tiny amount of oxygen that permeates into the bottle, which Continue reading "More Than Just a Cork: Engineering the Perfect Wine Closure to Shape a Wine’s Evolution"

Grant Nash Grenache 2024
With a persona edging on robust with some generosity, this Grant Nash Grenache opens with a warm, spice-laden frame that sets the tone. Inviting aromas of baked raspberries, red currants and ripe red cherries lead the charge, all wrapped up in a neat parcel that echoes Cherry Ripe slice. Of note, it strikes a mean balance between fruit intensity and a savoury intrigue. Exotic spices weave about the palate with ease offering a neat, rustic, earthy edge. Perhaps this is the splash of Mourvedre talking? Some meatiness tucks in beneath, too. In all, it calls for food and I reckon it would smash burger night with ease. 92/100 Region: McLaren Vale RRP: $40 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and X

Bruichladdich 2008 Oloroso (Halcyon Spirits)
Halcyon Spirits has been following a slow path since 2023, with just one or two bottlings per year, released one-by-one. They set the bar high with old (expensive) Macallan and Clynelish . Subsequent releases became more affordable, mostly around the £ 200 mark.Their seventh release is this Bruichladdich 2008 . It is 18 years old and it spent the last three in a fresh Oloroso hogshead. Bruichladdich 18 yo 2008 (57,3%, Halcyon Spirits 2026, Oloroso sherry hogshead finish, 185 btl.) Nose: a lot of tobacco leaves, with a nice hint of heavily toasted oak, old leather and whiffs of peppermint. It's very good sherry cask, probably European oak. Underneath there is some dried apricot and toffee, as well as marmalade. Cinnamon and roasted nuts with a chocolate coating. Some Atlantic freshness comes out as well. Mouth: again rather wood-driven, with this toasted layer and the bourbon-like peppermint. Orange peels, golden raisins and figs, along with some peppery heat, cinnamon and ginger.

Giovanna Tantini - Rosso Veronese IGT "Greta" 2015
di Carlo Macchi Giovanna Tantini ha idee chiarissime, anche quando pensa quale vino dedicare a sua figlia. Corvina, tralci tagliati in pianta e lasciati a appassire fino a novembre. Colore scarico, profumi di frutta senza il calore dell’appassimento, corpo importante e tannini dolcissimi. Greta 2015, un gran vino!
