America’s First Aged Whiskey
For over 25 years now, I have had a debate with John Lipman about whether Bourbon or Rye Whiskey was the first aged whiskey. John has put forward that it was Rye whiskey being aged before Bourbon. Here are my... Continue Reading →

Tickets on sale for Great American Beer Festival’s new location
Tickets are on sale for the nation’s premier craft beer festival held in Denver, October 10-11, 2026 The Brewers Association (BA) has announced that tickets are now on sale for a reimagined Great American Beer Festival ® (GABF™), happening at Levitt Pavilion in Denver on October 10 and 11, 2026. GABF has been the heartbeat of American craft beer culture since 1982, and this year, it's getting a serious glow-up. Expect a brand-new venue, a revamped layout, and a renewed focus on what makes this festival so special: the beer, the brewers, and the people who love both. Most pours will come straight from the award-winning breweries themselves, so the magic of "Meet the Brewer" isn't just a corner of the room anymore, it is the room. For seasoned hopheads and first-time explorers alike, this year's festival was built for all experience levels. Sessions run Saturday and Sunday from 12–4 p.m., leaving plenty of time to wander and sip. Live music, stage entertainme

Short Stack Mid Strength IPA – Kinnegar
Here’s another sunny park can, I checked out the ‘Short Stack Mid Strength IPA’ from Kinnegar and it proved that lower ABV doesn’t have to mean lower flavour. This can weighs in at 2.7% ABV and comes in a 440ml can, thinking it’d be a good BBQ sipper of a tin. The nose is bright […]

Cellar-door sales in Sweden: compulsory lecture on harmful effects of alcohol abolished
A press release published on May 8 (2026) from the Swedish Public Health Agency announces that “as of June 1 this year, the requirement to verbally inform about the harmful effects of alcohol at cellar doors will disappear. Instead, salespeople must provide the Public Health Agency’s information sheet to visitors.” This is a somewhat unexpected […] Continue reading: Cellar-door sales in Sweden: compulsory lecture on harmful effects of alcohol abolished The post Cellar-door sales in Sweden: compulsory lecture on harmful effects of alcohol abolished was originally published on BKWine Magazine and written by Per Karlsson . Peeved
Work had me in Glasgow for a few days earlier this month, a city I had never been drinking in before, so was pleased to get it some way ticked off, though far from comprehensively, I'm sure. I was based on the western edge of the city centre, where there were a few noteworthy pubs (thanks Rob !) within easy reach. The State, for example, is a pleasant bit of dark wood and brass Victoriana. The five cask ales had nothing of Scottish interest: Almasty's Green Pale Ale was as close as it got, Newcastle being nearly Scotland. It came with a warning of cloudiness, which I waved away, though I wasn't prepared for quite how grey and gritty it was. Still, it tasted fairly clean, with only a hint of dregs. A coconut hop flavour is presumably the result of Ekuanot, in here with Simcoe and Mosaic. There's some woody pine and broad forest vibes, rather than the tropical taste promised by the brewery -- it's not quite clean enough for that. A herbal, medicinal tang, of eucalyptus and aniseed, finis

Ben Nevis 2003 (WhiskyNerds)
The WhiskyNerds have been quiet in the past couple of years. The last I know of was a French Brandy and a Secret Islay but that was back in 2023 already. I think it's simple: their bar stays high, so if nothing crosses their path, they don't have to bottle anything. Now they're back with a Ben Nevis 2003 . A year that we have never tried before, as far as I know. There's only a dozen of releases in any case.
