🎧Stephen Brauer: Route to Market is More Than Distributor Alignment
In today’s podcast, host Carol Collison speaks with Stephen Brauer, currently an industry consultant who has senior management experience at some of the wine industry’s largest companies. The two discuss why this moment in the industry may be actually harder for larger companies to navigate, whether the wine business is suitable for public markets, and what a comprehensive “route to market” strategy looks like, including the concept Stephen calls “ways of working”, which defines how a company can optimize performance in wholesale markets.

🎧Ep 174 Small Rooms, Big Souls – Featuring Diablo Paso | Indiginé Cellars
🍇 Where Wine Takes You – Episode Highlights 🍷 In this episode of Where Wine Takes You, Adam heads downtown, not just to taste wine, but to dig into the people helping shape the downtown Paso Robles tasting room experience. Recorded at SLO CAL Studios, this episode brings together two winemakers and brand owners with very different stories and a beautifully shared hustle: Ray Smith of Indigené Cellars and Enrique Torres of Diablo Paso. Enrique’s journey starts in Guerrero, Mexico, and continues in Paso Robles, where he arrived in 2001 and began working at the former Martin & Weyrich winery. He worked his way up from cellar rat to cellar master to assistant winemaker, eventually creating Diablo Paso, his personal love letter to Spanish varieties, old world style, hard work, and family balance. In this conversation, Enrique also drops some big news: Diablo Paso was named Winery of the Year at the Central Coast Wine Competition, with his El Nico taking Best Red, Double Gold, Best of Clas

🎧Wine, Whining, and Why Your Toddler Ruined the Tasting Room
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! Think of today’s region as the 'Alice in Wonderland' of California wine country. You’ve got dramatic ridges high above the fog line, soils that have been shaken up by the San Andreas Fault, and tiny, family-owned producers who are doing things their own way. It’s a place where vines struggle just enough to produce something truly magical, but where the human element? Well, that can be a bit of a rollercoaster. We’re going to talk about the terroir, the iconic Pinot and Chardonnays, and of course, the vibe. Some of these wineries are absolute gems where you can bring the pups and soak in the redwoods, and others... let’s just say their customer service policies are, shall we call them, 'highly spirited.' Whether you’re looking for a dog-friendly paradise or a place to debate the definition of 'kid-friendly' over a glass of world-clas

🎧The Wine Makers – Erin Kirschenmann, Novel Pairings and Wine Business Monthly
Erin Kirschenmann’s day job is managing editor of *Wine Business Monthly*. After spending her days immersed in the intricacies and moving targets that make up the wine business, she spends her nights curled up with a book and a glass of wine (or two). As both a writer and a wine lover, she naturally began pairing her reading with wines—a moody Pinot with a twisty thriller, for example. A couple of years ago, it occurred to her that there were other bibliophile-oenophiles out there who would love to do the exact same thing, so she founded Novel Pairings. Novel Pairings exists at the confluence of a book club and a wine club, where quarterly wine shipments align with book selections and monthly gatherings. We sat down with Erin to learn more, find out how she chooses the wines and books, and see if we can do what Petaluma’s finest educators couldn’t: get Brian to read a book. We’re always looking for new ways to bring wine into people’s lives, and people are always looking for more ways

🎧The Secret Life of Prosecco: An Insider’s Look at Farra di Soligo with La Farra Winery
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass! We talk a lot about 'place' in wine, but sometimes, the best way to really understand a region is to just drop yourself right into the middle of it—even if you’re doing it in your pajamas from the comfort of your own living room! I recently sat in on a fantastic virtual tasting that transported me straight to the breathtaking vineyards of Farra di Soligo. La Farra Winery provided such a great experience that I didn't want to just summarize it for you; I wanted you to hear it for yourself. We’re going to be talking about everything that makes authentic Prosecco DOC so special—the history, the family passion, and of course, those incredible steep slopes. I want you to get comfortable, pour yourself a glass—sparkling or other

🎧Is Moscato d’Asti the Sweet Wine Serious Wine People Won’t Admit They Love?
When asked, most people say they like dry wines rather than sweet wines, but is that really true? Based on the most popular wines in the United States, it doesn’t seem like it. At all. One of the most popular wine varietals in the US is Moscato, and the sweet wine Moscato d’Asti is one of the most well known, and well loved wines in the world. Just ask Costco who sells a ton of the stuff. And there are some obvious reasons why. First, it’s delicious, and second, humans are hard wired to be attracted to sweet. So, why do sweet wines get a bad rap? Some of it is for health reasons, frankly, but some of it is because wine snobs tend to look down their nose at sweet wines, and that’s not really fair. For much of the world’s history, sweet wines were the preferred wines, and based on sales of popular wines today, which we will cover in this episode, it seems quite obvious that they are still preferred by many, many consumers. So, we’ll let you know what we think, and if either of the wines

🎧The Wine Makers – Chef Charlie Palmer & Sommelier Tess Housholder
The whole thing started because we couldn’t remember the name of the Executive Chef at Wing & Barrel in Sonoma. One of our listeners that happened to work for Charlie Palmer reached out and suggested that we come for a visit to Appellation Healdsburg and meet the legend in person. We will never forget his name again. Charlie Palmer is an acclaimed American chef, restaurateur, and hotelier, renowned for pioneering Progressive American cuisine and owning multiple Michelin-starred restaurants. Charlie Palmer began his professional career at The River Café in 1983, where he became executive chef at age 23 and earned three stars from The New York Times. He trained notable chefs including Michael Mina and George Morrone. In 1988, he opened his flagship restaurant, Aureole, in Manhattan, showcasing regional American ingredients and his signature Progressive American cuisine, which reinterprets classic European techniques using American artisanal products . Over the years, Palmer expanded his
