Beer In Ads #5283: Something Never Seen Before! XXX Bock Beer
Two years ago I decided to concentrate on Bock ads for awhile. Bock, of course, may have originated in Germany, in the town of Einbeck. Because many 19th century American breweries were founded by German immigrants, they offered a bock at certain times of the year, be it Spring, Easter, Lent, Christmas, or what have […]

Visiting Historic American Breweries for the Semiquincentennial
Beer is soaked into the fabric of America. From its earliest days, there have been intrepid souls who turned the right ingredients into fermented goodness that fortified settlers, soldiers, founders and citizens who did the work that needed to be done to form a more perfect union. As the country prepares to celebrate its semiquincentennial, […] The post Visiting Historic American Breweries for the Semiquincentennial first appeared on All About Beer .

A Brief History of Beer’s Important (and Complicated) Place in America
Although this country was founded on beer, we’ve had a complicated relationship with it from day one. When I say America was founded on beer, that’s not as much of a hyperbole as you might think. William Bradford, a settler who sailed over on the Mayflower, wrote in his diary in 1622 that the decision […] The post A Brief History of Beer’s Important (and Complicated) Place in America first appeared on All About Beer .

The Wine Scandal That Almost Killed Italian Wine — And Why It Made It Better
I have been living in Italy for years now. I drink Italian wine regularly, I write about it obsessively, and I genuinely believe it is some of the finest wine on earth. Archaeologists Discover Ancient Beer Receipts From 4,000 Years Ago
Cracking open a cold one is a common post-work ritual across many cultures today, but archaeologists discovered the practice dates back at least 4,000 years. The National Museum of Denmark has been home to a robust collection of tablets inscribed in now-extinct languages from early Middle Eastern civilizations for over a century, but archaeologists there, along with colleagues from the University of Copenhagen, only recently began to research them. The scholars deciphered a list of kings, administrative documents, and magic spells written in cuneiform — the tablet-writing system that ancient cultures in Iraq and Syria adopted around 5,200 years ago.
