The Oldest Winery in Missouri Once Grew Millions of Mushrooms in Its Underground Cellars
For more than four decades, the underground cellars at one Missouri winery didn’t hold a single bottle of wine. They were full of mushrooms. Today, Stone Hill Winery in Hermann pours wine again, and it’s been doing so since 1847, making it the oldest winery in Missouri. Around the turn of the 20th century, it […]

🎧WTF is Valdiguié? Don’t Call It Napa Gamay!
Oh wow! This wine, that you’ve probably never heard of, is a revelation! For many years this wine was known as Napa Gamay, but it was a case of mistaken identity that took several experts and eventually DNA testing to reveal the truth. And the truth is that Valdiguié is delicious and tragically little known. Nearly extinct today in France where it is originally from, it is now becoming a bit of a darling in California in the natural wine and low intervention winemaking circles. In the past, Valdiguié, which is a prolific grower, was used as blending wine, and was not appreciated as a single varietal. Today, it is finding its place among adventurous winemakers who know how to tease out its wonderful qualities. If you like Gamay or Pinot Noir and you like chilled red wines, Valdiguié needs to be on your list. One of these wines we rated a 9 out of 10! Wines reviewed in this episode: 2023 Cruse Wine Co. Rancho Chimiles Vineyard Valdiguié, 2022 Optik French Camp Valdiguié Send us a Text Me

🎧The Wine Makers – Keith Beavers: The Great American Wine Tour (and a Raid on Phil’s Cellar)
Keith Beavers is a busy man. He’s a podcaster, wine educator, and tasting director for VinePair, one of the most widely read drinks publications in the world. He also hosts VinePair’s Wine 101 podcast, making the unnecessarily intimidating world of wine a little more approachable. Since Keith was last on the show, he’s been crisscrossing the country, exploring the ever-evolving American wine scene and releasing the first six episodes of The Great American Wine Tour, visiting a half-dozen iconic and emerging wineries along the way. This week, Keith sits down with Bart and Sam to talk about all of that, but let’s be clear, this visit was really about one thing: raiding Phil Coturri’s cellar. And Sam’s cellar, too. Because somehow, despite Keith’s vast experience tasting wines from around the world, he’d never really had the opportunity to dig into properly aged California wine. We decided it was time to fix that. We pull the corks on a few old bottles from Sonoma Valley and the Moon Moun
