‘Wine Bar’ Restaurants Have Taken Hold In the U.S. The Trend Is Spreading Globally.
When the James Beard Foundation announced its national culinary awards this summer, both the hospitality industry and the general public tuned in to see who topped the list in each category. Big winners included Los Angeles’s Kato for best wine program, Scotch Lodge in Portland, Ore., for outstanding bar, Philadelphia’s Kalaya for outstanding restaurant, and NYC’s Lei, which took home the prize as the country’s best new restaurant. On one level, that last award was hardly surprising. The article ‘Wine Bar’ Restaurants Have Taken Hold In the U.S. The Trend Is Spreading Globally. appeared first on VinePair.

🎧JAW DROP: Wine and Your Mouth
When we drink wine, we tend to focus on how it tastes, rather than what the wine is doing to our 'tasting gear' (mouth, teeth, tongue, gums, throat, saliva...even oral microbiome). Truth is, wine does have a pretty big impact on all that stuff - and, just as importantly, all that stuff can influence the way we taste wine too. Step forward Dr Ron Georgiou MW - a rare beast: dentist by day, Master of Wine by night. Like almost no one else, he can tell us what effect wine has on our mouths and teeth - and also, how we can keep our personal tasting apparatus in pristine condition so we can taste wine to the absolute max. This is an eye-opening episode that every wine lover needs to hear. Wine can damage our mouths - but there are ways to mitigate or prevent the dangers. Plus, the top tips in this programme can help you become a better taster. We also share our approach - plus how we'll be changing in the light of this episode. (We told you this podcast would change your life...) To support

Ask a Wine Pro: What Is Pink Chardonnay?
Grown in almost every major winemaking region, there are over 520,000 acres of Chardonnay vines planted around the world. The versatile white grape is notorious for its somewhat divisive nature, with expressions ranging from rich and buttery to fresh and zingy. Though the grape is ubiquitous at wine shops and restaurants, there’s one particular type of Chardonnay that might come as a surprise when you see it on a label or shelf talker: Pink Chardonnay. 🎧The Evolution of Sculpterra Winery: A Conversation with Winemaker Paul Frankel
It’s Monday, Let’s raise a glass to the beginning of another week. It’s time to unscrew, uncork or saber a bottle and let’s begin Exploring the Wine Glass. Today, we are heading to the heart of Paso Robles to dive into the incredible evolution of Sculpterra Winery. Long before they were crafting estate wines and filling a breathtaking sculpture garden with monumental works of art, the Frankel family started out simply tending the land and selling their grapes to other regional producers. To talk about what it's truly like to grow up among those vines, watch a family business transform from the ground up, and take the helm as winemaker, I sat down with winemaker and vineyard manager Paul Frankel. Pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass, and let’s explore the story behind Sculpterra. Please take a moment of your time to subscribe, rate and review Exploring the Wine Glass. It’s completely free and is a great way to let other wine lovers know about the podcast. Be sure to head over to the w

Worker Accused of Starting the Pickett Fire Pleads Not Guilty
Juan Luis Gutierrez Marfil, 45, of Napa, has pleaded not guilty in Napa County Superior Court to a felony charge of recklessly causing the August 2025 Pickett Fire, which burned 6,820 acres and a residence on and around a Pickett Road property owned by vintner Jayson Woodbridge. A Cal Fire filing says he admitted disposing of hot ashes into a burn pile. Three Howell Mountain wine companies have sued Woodbridge and his Hundred Acre affiliates over smoke-damaged grapes, and the defendants have moved the case to federal court and asked for dismissal. The PlumpJack Group has already settled with Hundred Acre, and an attorney says 20 to 30 other growers are weighing their options.
