Harvest 2026 winds down as it began, with excellent quality but yields down 30% vs. 2025
While our worst fears -- that yields would be off by something like 50% -- haven't come to pass, we're still seeing crop levels down significantly. At least quality looks great.

Benromach Contrasts: Côte-Rôtie Cask
Benromach 's innovative Contrasts series has a new member: a 12 Year Old single malt matured in first-fill bourbon casks before 26 months finishing in Côte-Rôtie wine casks . Wine casks are always popular, says the distillery team, but they're generally not our favourites.Côte-Rôtie brings us to the terraces of the Northern Rhône, just south of Lyon, where Syrah grapes are common, sometimes co-planted and co-fermented with a little white Viognier. Benromach Contrasts: Wine Finish 12 yo 2014 (46%, OB 2026, Côte-Rôtie Cask finish) Nose: not bad really. Lots of red berry aromas, some strawberry jam, blackberries and pomegrenate. Light peat sits underneath, along with black peppercorns and some sour herbal notes, hibiscus and orange peels. Then also rounder vanilla, a little caramel and cocoa. There's a very light sangria-character to it, but not at all unpleasant. Mouth: at first the peat stands out more, but the wine is louder as well. Dark forest fruits again, with damsons and blo

Tamworth Garden Strawberry Rhubarb Cordial and Tamworth Garden Cranberry Cordial
Hello, my friends. First off, I just want to thank you all for your well wishes as I dealt with the loss of my Grandma. She was a very special woman who will be missed by many. But life goes on for those who remain, and so I have been getting back to work. And so here we are, looking at a pair of lovely cordials from Tamworth Distilling in Tamworth, New Hampshire, a place that is quickly becoming one of my favorite non-bourbon distilleries. I bought these a while back from their website and have been waiting for summer to crack them open. They just felt like good summer drinks. Especially this time of year, when my wife makes many tasty rhubarb treats from the plants in our garden. And cranberries are one of my favorites. My Grandma’s cabin was located in one of the major cranberry-growing areas outside of New England. So these felt right today. Let’s dig into the review, though. Tamworth Garden Strawberry Rhubarb Cordial Purchase Info: $35 for a 375 mL bottle at the Tamworth Distillin

🎧Ep 620: The Greats – The Wachau Region of Austria
Austria is a bit off the radar so you may not know its greatest region: the Wachau. This time I cover the region in detail, from its 2000 year history to its unique geological makeup. I explain the region and why it makes some of best Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. While Austria is most certainly on the rise, there is no other region that rises to "The Greats" status other than the Wachau. A truly unique gem, in the world of white wine, this is a region with perfect terroir, a set of producers who have collaborated to do their best, and a set of wines that rank among the best whites in the world. In this show, as in all "Greats" I cover: The history of the Wachau The location, climate, and geography/geology Viticulture that is unique to the area (the dry stone walls, and the inclusion of botrytized grapes by some is fascinating!). The main grapes (Grüner, Riesling) and wine styles Sub regions and their significance Producers Classifications from both the Vinea Wachau AND the DAC system
