videoYou’ve NEVER Had a Drink Like This - Fairy Cream
Today we’re crafting the Fairy Cream cocktail a rich, indulgent cocktail that blends herbal intensity with silky sweetness. At its core is the unmistakable character of absinthe, layered with the smooth chocolate notes of crème de cacao (both white and dark variations), and finished with luscious heavy cream for a velvety texture. Fidelitas
Here are the outstanding new wines by Fidelitas. Today we share the great wines of Fidelitas and founder Charlie Hoppes. Former winemaker at both Col Solare and Chateau Ste. Michelle, Hoppes has been crafting his own wines on Red Mountain for nearly two decades. I love how he has attention to detail on white wines from Red Mountain. Do not miss out on the sensational 2023 ‘Red Mountain’ Semillon (OB, 93) which has to be one of the best wines of its kind that you will taste in Washington. DeLille Cellars
Here is the gorgeous new 2025 DeLille Rose (OB, 93). Today we share the beautiful wines of DeLille Cellars. I have known their director of winemaking, Jason Gorski, for more than a decade. His team makes one of the best overall lineups in Washington. DeLille sources from their estate, 20-acre vineyard in Red Mountain as well as premier vineyards in the Yakima Valley. I love visiting their Woodivinlle winery that even has views of Mt. Ranier. It has an awesome restaurant that is adjacent their tasting room with great bites to pair with their beautiful wines. They recently opened a tasting room in University Village that is a gorgeous spot to enjoy their lineup. Gorski and his team did a great job navigating 2022. They have been making what is consistently one of the finest Rose wines in the state. I adore the 2025 DeLille Cellars Rose (OB, 93) which has amazing flavor range and comes off dense and generous. videoRock Island Year of the Dragon Scotch— Smoke or Char?
Still in Calgary, still finding deals at Kensington Wine Market. This Douglas Laing Rock Island Year of the Dragon (2024 limited release) comes in at 54.8% ABV, finished in heavily charred “crocodile” casks. First impression? Big, bold, smoky-sweet… but coming right after Big Peat, am I tasting the cask char, or just leftover peat on the palate? Anyone else tried this one yet? #RockIsland #DouglasLaing #BlendedMalt #ScotchWhisky #WhiskyReview #CaskStrength #Calgary #KensingtonWineMarket

Hospital tests
Earlier this week I had to have a hospital test that was new to me. In order to find out why food stays in my stomach more than the normal 3 to 5 hours (gastroscopies and ultrasound have shown it to be there for over 16 hours after I have fasted), I was urged to have a Delayed Gastric Emptying Study (DGES). I am pretty sure the culprit will be the pyloric valve damaged at the base of my stomach by the operation I had ten years ago ( see here ), but this test was just to make sure there was no other reason for the hold-up. So last week, I made my way to the Nuclear Medicine Department of Guy's Hospital near London Bridge for my appointment there. The word "Nuclear" is scary enough. Would I glow in the dark afterwards? I had to present myself fasting and that included drinking no water either. Having to negotiate the hour-long journey from home to London Bridge - in morning rush-hour on busy trains without breakfast and not even a sip of water - was hard. On arriving at the Nuclear
videoGrillo : a White Wine Grape from Sicily
Italy contains a wealth of interesting white wine grapes beyond the Pinot Grigio recognized by consumers. Today we present a Grillo offering from Fina Winery in the Marsala region of Sicily. While Marsala is associated with the well known sweet cooking wine, it also is home to white wine grapes such as Grillo that produce dry / citrus toned offerings that reflect a Mediterranean character. #winepodcast #wine #italianwhitewine #grillowine #sicilianwine

Arila Gardens Moppa Saperavi 2024
If this Saperavi is posing the question, then a Bistecca steak laid over glowing coals is the answer. Just let the char, heft and primal swagger meet head on as you sit back and indulge. At first, on opening, it needed a little coaxing to come and play. Blueberries emerge alongside purple florals and a dried violet perfume. Give it some time and it unfurls like a silk sheet drawn slowly across a table. A fine thread of spice draws out quietly without raising its voice. Plums and blue fruits do their work in the background with a fine dried herb cameo. Voluptuous tannins add flex with their powdery texture as they dry out ever so gently. In all, it's not as expressive as the debut 2022 Saperavi from Arila Gardens that came across this tasting bench, but it's a most respectable drink and demands attention in its own right. 92/100 Region: Barossa RRP: $45 Source: Sample Winery Website Subscribe to Qwine here Follow: Instagram , LinkedIn and

My Sympathy to the Wine Writer and Wine Readers
Because it’s hard to inject novelty into the wine writing genre, when something seemingly new pops up in the world of wine, and the rush to write about it is understandable—writers working in this space CRAVE something that looks novel. This should not be taken as a critique of the profession or the folks who work within the wine writing genre.

Curly Flat Williams Crossing Chardonnay 2025
A Chardonnay with spark and energy, it feels like it's been kissed by the sun and flame in equal measure. It's great to see the Curly Flat Williams Crossing back on the shelves again after a brief hiatus. The fruit sits in the sweet spot with dehydrated peach mingling with barbecued stonefruit. There is a flicker of flint and a whisper of struck match that cuts through a note of custard powder. You get a sense that it walks the tightrope of richness and indulgence. A twist of ruby grapefruit skims across the palate adding freshness and a skip to its step. But it's hard to miss that textural detail that carries this along. Like an enveloping blanket, the Mediterranean tonic feels hum along bringing a supple, refreshing and complex detail. Above all, it's easy to love and even easier to re-pour. Whiskey Review: Old Grand-Dad Bourbon
We’re back with another budget bourbon review, and this week we’re digging into Old Grand-Dad Bourbon—the standard 80-proof version. It’s been a while since we revisited this brand, and we weren’t sure if we’d tried this specific expression before. Old Grand-Dad is part of Beam Suntory’s lineup and belongs to their so-called “Olds Collection” (Old Crow, Old Overholt, Old Tub, and Old Grand-Dad). The mash bill here is 63% corn, 27% rye, and 10% malted barley, making it a high-rye bourbon. Originally created in 1882 by Raymond B. Hayden and named after his grandfather Meredith Basil Hayden Sr., this whiskey shares some lineage with Basil Hayden, another Beam product we’ve found a bit underwhelming in the past. At 80 proof and designed largely for mixing, Old Grand-Dad has some stiff competition in the bottom-shelf bourbon category. This review is taken from our episode "Star Wars (1977) / Old Grand-Dad Bourbon." Click the link t
