Musee du Vin Ryugan 2024 Review – Delicate Japanese Wine
When we visited Japan in early 2026, I made sure to reserve some luggage room to bring home some unique Japanese varietals. One such grape was Ryugan, often called Zenkoji-shu due to its cultivation near the Zenoji Temple in Nagano. While distinctly different from a similar Japanese white grape, Koshu, which we also tried, they ... Read more

Ontario Chardonnay Review: Two Reserve Wines from Henry of Pelham_PR SAMPLE
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I received four bottles of different Chardonnay produced by Ontario’s Henry of Pelham winery. These wines were under screwcap. The next two wines that I just tasted...

🎧Ep 609: A History of Champagne (How Champagne Became Champagne) – Part 1
This is part of a two-part series on the history of Champagne, which tells the story of how Champagne became Champagne! Photo: Champagne vineyards before mechanization. Source: Union des Maisons de Champagne I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole when I discovered an entire encyclopedia of the history of Champagne on the Union des Maisons de Champagne site. It was the equivalent of 200 pages of information on Champagne from its origins up until the 1980s and was detailed and fascinating. I tried to cull it down, but the information was just too vast and too interesting not to share! So this will be a two-parter. In this show I cover: The origins of the Champagne vineyard with the Romans in the late 400s through the Middle Ages The 13th Century when Champagne was used in the coronation of the French kings and began its life as a wine for royalty The changes from feudalism to sharecropping through the 1500s, with all the ups and downs in the fortunes of the region The grapes of the time and

Whiskey Review: Larceny Small Batch Bourbon
Today, we’re reviewing Larceny Small Batch Bourbon from Heaven Hill. This 92-proof whiskey is Heaven Hill’s baseline wheated bourbon offering and a direct competitor to Weller Special Reserve. The mash bill is undisclosed, and while it’s non-age stated, we know it’s at least four years old. Larceny traces its roots back to the Old Fitzgerald brand, which Heaven Hill acquired years ago. For a while, the company wasn’t doing much with the brand, but Larceny was released as a nod to Old Fitz before Heaven Hill brought that line back as a premium product. In contrast, Larceny has stayed true to its value roots — the “people’s wheated bourbon.” We were eager to revisit this bottle. Bob remembers not being a huge fan when he tried it years ago, but with the rising popularity of Larceny’s Barrel Proof expressions, it was time to give the 92-proof version another chance. This review is taken from our episode " Vertigo (1958) / Larceny
