Winter Seasonal Beer – Jar of Destiny
The Jar of Destiny handed me a Winter Seasonal Beer in the 17th round. It’s 30C on the ol’ BJCP list. This style leans into cold weather, holiday flavors, and festive spice character. videoThis Malbec Was NOT What We Expected! (Episode 598)
We thought we knew what to expect from an Argentinian Malbec — big, rich, fruity and ready for a steak. Punto Alto Malbec had other ideas! 🍷 At £9.99, this Argentinian Malbec turned out to be much lighter and rather different from the style we were expecting. But that raised an interesting question: were we judging the wine for what it actually was, or for what we thought a Malbec ought to be? In this Wine Mastery tasting, we look at the colour, aroma and taste of Punto Alto Malbec, discuss whether this lighter style might actually work chilled as a summer red, and tackle the all-important question of what food and cheese we'd pair with it. And, as ever, we finish with our scores — and John and John don't entirely agree! 🍷 Punto Alto Malbec 🇦🇷 Argentina 💷 £9.99 at the time of tasting ⭐ Our scores: 79/100 and 72/100 The bottle tasted in this episode was kindly supplied by Wine Drops. Uncle Nearest Dispute Escalates as Judge Dismisses Co-Founder’s Bankruptcy Case; Lender Fight Continues
UPDATE 3/19/26: After an expedited hearing this morning, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Suzanne H. Bauknight granted the motion to dismiss brought by receiver Phillip Young. According to court documents, Bauknight ruled that Uncle Nearest co-founder Fawn Weaver was not authorized to file bankruptcy petitions while under the control of a receiver. The court stated that by filing the Chapter 11 petition earlier this week, Weaver violated U.S. District Judge Charles Atchley Jr.’s order that put the receivership in place, which only permitted her to market and manage the Uncle Nearest brand. As a result, the receivership under Young remains intact. Absinthe: Effects, Myths, and the Truth About Hallucinations
Absinthe: Effects, Myths, and the Truth About Hallucinations Absinthe has long been surrounded by mystery, myth and artistic romance. Known historically as La Fée Verte, the Green Fairy it has been credited with inspiring creativity, provoking madness and even causing hallucinations. Writers, painters and poets of the nineteenth century praised its intoxicating allure, while critics blamed it for social decline and mental instability. But how much of that reputation is actually true? Today, with better scientific understanding and greater historical research, we know that much of absinthe’s notoriety was built on exaggeration, poor-quality imitations and misunderstanding. Authentic absinthe is not a hallucinogenic drug. Its effects come primarily from alcohol, but its character and experience are shaped by a unique combination of herbs, aroma, ritual, dilution and preparation. That is the real story of absinthe. What Is Absinthe? Absinthe is a high-proof distilled spirit traditionally
