Champagne: Making Moments Matter
For a long time, I didn’t quite get Champagne. I certainly understood its place in the wine world: the long history, the meticulous production, the reverence. But every time I found myself at a party where a bottle was opened, I couldn’t understand why people were willing to shell out several hundred dollars for something […] The post Champagne: Making Moments Matter appeared first on Advinetures.ca .

Flavescence dorée: A Viticultural Murder Mystery
In slanting early morning light, a shadow crosses a vineyard. The figure moves row by row, ripping out vines and casting them onto a large, burning pyre. The blaze stretches to greet the sun as it rises above a mountainous horizon. There is fire from all points of the compass. Death is in the air. The culprit is a phytoplasm fatal to Vinifera vines. Its spread is aided by the American grapevine leafhopper (Scaphoideus titanus), a dwarf cicada native to North America. As it feasts on the vines, it transmits the pathogen of what is known in German as Goldgelbe...

Fuggled Beers of the Year: Pale
It's that time of the year, the Winter Solstice is upon us, and what better to do than to review a year's worth of drinking? As has become my own tradition, I will break this down into multiple posts, one for pale beer, one for BOAB ("between orange and brown", and dark, and then an overall beer of the year, as well as one for Virginia cider of the year. As I have done for several years now, I will highlight beers from Virginia, the rest of the US, and the rest of the world before crowning each category winner, so on with the show... Champagne Telmont: Where Heritage Meets the Future of Sustainable Champagne + Wine Review
Champagne is a region built on centuries of tradition, but every so often, a house emerges that doesn’t just update the rule book; it edits the whole document. New brewery looks to leave its footprint in Glen Rose
Texas Honey Blonde one of 10 beers on tap at Glen Rose Brewing Co. (Photos © Brian Brown/Beer in Big D). If you find yourself making tracks in the far southwestern region of North Texas, there's a new craft beer destination for your consideration, now that Glen Rose Brewing Co. is open and operating in the city known as the "Dinosaur Capital of Texas." It's the first brewery for Glen Rose and the surrounding county of Somervell. David Dulcie founded the company, which debuted in early July at 302 Lake View St. on a site that sits just over a mile northeast of Glen Rose's historic downtown district. There, the brewery shares an outdoor public area with a neighboring restaurant called 3B Beers, Brats & Burgers . It's a convenient co-existence, since hungry patrons can order one of the shop's build-your-own burger, bratwurst or grilled chicken baskets at the bar inside the taproom. On that note, Glen Rose operates within a smaller structure, with the taproom and production space
