The Ten - 2025's Best Sober Moments
A whole year of beer boiled down to ten spots. Just ten moments that lingered in my mind and helped get me through the last 365 days make this list and while there were a lot of low points in 2025, these beers gave light and hope to an often dreary world. It's been an adjustment talking about NA beers versus regular pints, the alcohol effect being absent makes for a whole different vibe to be sure. But the options are getting better and as the market for NA offerings grows, so should the quality. I'm here for the beer, so let's get on with this year's Sober Ten. 10. One for the Road Brewing Proceed with Caution Amber (January 26th) One of the first non-alcoholic beers that really wowed me this year, One for the Road Brewing certainly tries to deliver as close to the real thing in a whole lotta styles as anyone out there. Prolific in number, they try to find an NA offering for every taste and this nutty, toasted malt beauty hit all the marks. Lacking not

Carlos Arriba Brings a Taste of Chilean Adventure to Texas Shelves

That is the lane Carlos Arriba comfortably cruises in. Now landing exclusively at H-E-B locations across Texas, Carlos […] The post Carlos Arriba Brings a Taste of Chilean Adventure to Texas Shelves appeared first on Austin Food Magazine .

When “Only Alcohol Calms My OCD” Becomes a Trap
If you’ve ever thought, “Only alcohol could calm down my OCD,” you are not alone. Many people discover that a few drinks seem to quiet intrusive thoughts, soften anxiety, and make rituals feel less urgent—for a little while. It can feel like you’ve finally found something that works when nothing else has. But when OCD and alcohol start to travel together, the short-term relief often turns into a second, heavier burden: alcohol use disorder. This article explains why drinking feels like it helps, how it actually keeps OCD stuck, and what effective, long-term help looks like—especially if you need treatment in Texas. Fuggled Beers of the Year: Dark
Given the inherent subjectivity of the BOAB category, it is always good to be back on more solid ground with dark beers, and I do love a good dark beer. That said, most of the dark beers I have drunk this year have been my own. In the spring I brewed my annual dry stout, imaginatively monikered "Virginia Stout", for Mrs V's fiddle teacher, who hosts a St Patrick's Day party every year, and it is just de rigueur to have a session stout at such events. In the summer I brewed a dark mild, again for a party, this time a birthday bash. Going through my records for non-VelkyAl brewed dark beers it is clear that the pickings are very slim...so I will pivot and just mention a single beer from each of the geographies, and name a winner. Virginia Tweed Dunkel - Selvedge Brewing, Charlottesville Back at Yuletide 2024, I rocked up to the bar at Selvedge - gasp, shock, horror - and was given a bottle of Tweed, kellerbier style, in that it had been bottled straight out of the lagering tank with stil
