Nannup Estate Phillip Stanley Chardonnay 2021
Nannup Estate's flagship Chardonnay rises to the occasion, delivering a wine of depth, character and one to cellar with confidence should you have the patience to do so. The fruit was machine-harvested and pressed to barrel where it remained for ten months. The best barrels were selected for this wine before blending. Generous yellow stonefruit sits at the core, partnered by an array of interest. Think lemon zest, key lime pie, pineapple husk and dehydrated mango with ribbons of pastry creaminess flowing through with ease. Roasted cashews and nougat rise up with time in the glass finishing with oak spices, cinnamon spiced pears and a tense acidity. Beulah Chardonnay 2023
If a rich, oak-driven style of Chardonnay is your thing, head on over this way. Beulah Wines hail from Western Australia's Blackwood Valley, just inland from Margaret River. Dehydrated peach, peaches and cream, this is definitely on the yellow fruit spectrum. Lemon curd gets amongst the action with cashews and gingerbread adding some savoury interest. Warming and mouthfilling, woodsy spices linger long on a persistent finish. Of note, the acidity creeps up high on the palate and refuses to loosen its grip. Sunnyhurst Winery Viognier 2025
Delightful, attractive and most approachable, this is a fruit-driven Viognier sure to please. It's my first look at a wine from the Blackwood Valley's Sunnyhurst Winery, and it has made a most positive impression. Scents of yellow flowers, yellow-fleshed stonefruit and gingernut biscuit spices get you in the mood. Mazipan, fresh apricots and yellow-fleshed nectarines plant themselves on the palate, framed by those spices that cling to the finish. Armed for long lunches or soaking up the weekend sunshine, the length rolls on with the acidity bringing the mouth the water. A Tour of Wine Grapes: Marsanne
Marsanne 🟡 Photo by Marianne Casamance on Wikimedia Commons Marsanne ( mar-shon ) is a white wine grape from France that has its origins in the Northern Rhône Valley. The grape's cultivation was first recorded in the 16th century. It was formally documented as a distinct varietal in 1781, establishing its status in Rhône winemaking. During the Middle Ages, local monasteries kept the grape alive using it primarily as a blending component long before it was bottled as a single varietal. By the 17th and 18th centuries, White Hermitage (made mostly of Marsanne) was globally famous. U.S. wine connoisseur Thomas Jefferson famously declared it "the first white wine in the world without a single exception." In the late 1860s, Marsanne was exported to Victoria, Australia. Because Europe's vineyards were later devastated by the Phylloxera pest, Australia's now houses the world's oldest living Marsanne vines which were planted in 1927. di Carlo Macchi Per un chiantigiano come me rendere omaggio a un Sangiovese di Romagna non è cosa di tutti i giorni, ma il Domus Caia di Stefano Ferrucci è un vino che pur nascendo in una zona ben precisa è patrimonio di tutti perché rappresenta una visione, la voglia di andare sempre avanti, di tracciare nuove strade e di farlo con un rigore e un’attenzione quasi maniacale. Stefano Ferrucci , che purtroppo ci ha lasciati da diversi anni, poteva tranquillamente albergare in un film di Fellini, in realtà viveva a Castel Bolognese ed è stato forse il primo che, negli anni settanta del secolo scorso, ha iniziato a rivoluzionare la viticoltura romagnola. Rese più basse con diradamenti in primis ma forse l’idea più rivoluzionaria e l’obiettivo più difficile fu quello di fare un vino con del sangiovese passito.
